Importing from DVD

Post by Jaydee »

If I make a DVD of my edited DV (camcorder) movie on my HD, it is burned as a video and audio track version, not .avi, ready to play on a DVD player.

Now, should I next delete this avi movie from my HD, how do I import the DVD version in VideoStudio 9 for, say, correcting titles or adding scenes? Am I to expect image resolution loss doing such? In other words, does VideoStudio 9 support DVD to avi conversion?

YES.

YES. DVDs use MPEG-2 which is lossy compression (much mre lossy than AVI/DV). If you encode twice, you get unnecessary degradation. The idea is to encode to MPEG once, when you're done editing.

On top of the re-coding degradation, MPEGs are not really meant to be edited, and editing them with Ulead can cause all kinds of trouble including the dreaded "lip-sync" problems.
