Chapter Menu

Post by sussertown »

Using one of the recommendations, I first Created a Vieo File. I then went to burn disc. I was given an option somehwhere in there to create chapters. By the time I got to the menus, I was only given the option of creating one menu rather than one for each chapter. In a previous burn of another file, I recall burning a disc with menus showing each chapter.

Hi

For each video file you insert you get a main menu thumbnail..

In the first window you have the option to ‘Add / Edit Chapters’ to each of these.(left of preview screen)

In the second window you can select your ‘chapter menu' from the drop-down box at the top, usually displaying ‘main menu’

To expand on Trevor's explanation, I think Sussertown is confusing titles with chapters. Each video file you insert into your project is represented by a title (main menu). From those you can add/edit chapters (sub-menu).

It is a bit confusing :?

You're right

It is very confusing and very unintuitive. I ended up with what looked lilke as two menues instead of one. they use the same images which makes it even more confusing. I only need one set of images for chapters only. Also, it appears there is no reason to split scenes in the editor as you are asked create chapters when you burn. the scene splitting seems to be useful only to move the scenes to other locations.

Actually, there is a reason, at least for me. I use separate video files, but not chapters, so all of those titles appear as thumbs on my menus and I don't have those sub-menus for the chapters.

Also, somewhere in VS9 (I'm at work at the moment) I think there is a box to check/uncheck to show a main menu. I'm sure someone else will clarify.

Interesting

So you're saying that if you have 6 VSPs of one movie (a movie split into 6 projects), you create 6 mpegs and then burn them by adding all 6 to the project at burn time and then the names of each of the Mpegs show as titles for each chapter?

YES

For each Mpeg you add you get one thumbnail, all 6 will be contained in the main menu page.

Hi sussertown
A bit more info

Once you have made all 6 mpegs.

Start a new project.
Share Create Disc—Add Video—browse your hard drive and select the mpegs.

Your project properties should be the same as your Mpeg properties.

Read My Guide for Mpeg from the link below

Chapters

Post by sussertown »

I read your link and it was helpful. If I add the mpegs the names seem to stay with the original temp numbers instead of what I named the clips in the library shortcuts.

What I want to be able to do is see the chapters in the menu, which it appears is happening. I want to see the names as I created them for the chapters and I want to be able to click NEXT on my player to get to each chapter. Do I check Create menu and not ADD Chapters?

...and

Post by sussertown »

If I want to add text it appears that I have to open yet another project and create a video file. But, whatever I do for this purpose, when I add back my files that I rendered at 6000 video rate, the choices offered are these: 8000 or 9216. It was you or andrew in his tutorial that said that it is faster to render at 6000 initially and then not have to do it when burning. So where did I go wrong or miss the point?

Hi sussertown

Creating a menu.
Start a new project, set the project properties to match the video file properties.

1------Share-Create Disc

2------Add your six Video Files
You will be prompted to ‘Change video Sequence’. Click the ‘Clip file Name’ tag to re-arrange, select OK

3------6 clips have been inserted to the timeline. The clips show the names of the original files not necessarily the library names. Are the files in the correct order , you can drag them along the timeline to arrange.

4------Select NEXT

5------From the menu template to the right select a background layout. Or select your own background image from the link below the screen.

6------This screen shows the ‘Main Menu’. But indicates only 2 thumbnails.
Select ‘Custom’ lower right, now at the top right select ‘Layout’ from the drop downbox.
Scroll down until you have a 6 thumbnail layout. There are four to choose from, You can always change your mind. There are other options to choose’ Frames and Buttons’ When you are happy press OK,
The main Manu will change to have 6 thumbnails.

7------Each thumbnail has the file name below, click each file name on screen and change the text from the pop-up window, Just like using ‘Word’ Do this for each thumbnail.

8------At the top of the menu page change the words ’My Title’ in the same way

9------For the time being deselect ‘Motion Menu’ Lower left of screen.

10-----Now click the centre of the first thumbnail. Here you can change the frame that is displayed. Drag the slider or click the digital clock ( hh:mm:ss:ff) use the up / down arrows. Repeat with all thumbnails.

11------ Nearly there

12------Select the Cogwheel lower left. This gives Navigation options. That is how the disc will play through the clips.
The most common being, ‘continue to play next clip’. Your movie will play all 6 clips from beginning to end then return to menu.
‘Return to menu’ will as it says return to the main menu after playing each clip.

The process above has created the main menu page and has NOT created any chapters.

Hope this Helps

This is excellent. I can understand this clearly and will try it.

Just prior to this I created a video as you recommended, I think, and then went to Share. The offer was not made to Create a file, so I went on, changed the names in the menus and then created a DVD folder. Afterwared I went to Burn Disc. The size looks good, but the Menu has the original names again rather then what I created when I created the Folder. so now I have to fix the menu again before I burn the disc. Does this sound right?
