Multitrim

Post by caroljbear »

Hello

I downloaded the VideoStudio 9 Trial and I loved it up till the part where I was using multitrim to edit out commercials from a movie I taped on TV. I started and couldn't finish just then so I saved but when I go and open the file again, I can't seem to get back to the full movie where all my previous clips are marked. The two clips I made are there but the full movie is missing. Is this the way the program works or is it me?

All help would be appreciated.

I bought MovieFactory 4 and all the edits are there when you save the file, but I can't burn to DVD it just freezes. I am trying to find software that does everything I want.

Hi Carol

I do not use the multi trim function but the scissors instead.

I position my project curser at the point I need to cut, then again at the end, the two cuts create three thumbnails, the second one being the commercials which I delete.
Then I continue to the next portion I want to remove and repeat the cuts.

What I think you have done is remove the last section of video from the last commercial to the end. Do not worry the thumbnails are only a link to the main file saved on your hard drive and has not been altered.

If you click the last thumbnail in the timeline, the right hand one, notice the blue bar below the preview screen, drag the right trim handle to far right and your video clip should re-appear.

Hope this Helps

I never completely got the hang of that multi-trim option either - I much prefer to use a method very similar to Trevors - if you have a look at the "Edit in Timeline" page of my website I have laid it out in a little more detail.

At first, I didn't use the Multi Trim option because I was used to the scissors approach (from older software that did not have the multi-trim option). I sat down to use it the other day, and now I don't know why I haven't been using this feature all along :)

It's very convenient to just move along the timeline, and mark the start/stop points you want.

I use the multitrim option. To answer the original question.
You have to complete the multitrim stage in one sitting. It is not something you can leave and come back to. Once you have completed multitrim the clips appear on the timeline. Now is a good time to save your project because you can later return to this point.

The multitrim stage to remove adverts shouldn't really take more than 10 minutes even on a 2 hour movie.
