I DL and installed the trial version of DMF5. Crashes very nicely and frequently when pressing the Multi-trim and Enhance video buttons.

I have bought all the DMF 1, 2, 3, and 4 over the years and used them successfuly.

They might want to get a better trial version up there.

I make product recommendations to pelple. I wouldn't recommend DMF5 the way it is. They need a stable version.

well just had an email from Ulead announcing MF5! A good price to upgrade (should be cheaper for MF4 users!) but I'm not going near it until plenty of people have tested it!

Installed MF5 Trial last night and here are the problems I've noticed so far:

Program crashes when attempting to capture video using my Panasonic Digital Video camera (worked well with MF3, not well with MF4, not at all in MF5).

When attempting to create a new project, I have to bounce back and forth between the Trial/Buy screen, and selection interface three or four times before I can actually begin a project.

When attempting to 'burn' the project (either to disc or to a folder on my system) the program doesn't do anything...just keeps track of the elapsed time (well over ten minutes and absolutley no progress).

I think I'll wait and see what others experience and just how many patches are released in the coming weeks.

MF seems to get worse with each generation.

Just my opinion...

I've installed and capured video with Movie Factory 5 and am very pleased with results.

This product works so far and I am not having any problems with it.

Exra drivers are not need for capture, works with all my devices, ATI AIW, Hauppauge PVR-250, Dvico FusionHDTV3 Gold-T and Firewire/iLink to include DV and HDV. Capture with HDV is much better than with VS9 or MSP8, it's a lot smoother and plays back with out being jerkey.

Have exported clips after editing and every thing seems faster, however it might be me.

Ulead has done some good work on this product.

Can you let us know the video you use, especially the properties?

When it crashes, is it just hang there or it shows the report error window? Which type of device control do you use when capture?

It would be better if you describe the cam model.

1. What video content do you use?
2. What burner model do you use? How is it connected with your system? Is it a internal burner?

Some info might help people to check the issues.

I use a Panasonic Digital Camcorder PV-GS19 through a firewire port (which worked fine with MF3, not so fine with MF4, and not at all with MF5), I get the Windows error message stating "Ulead DVD MovieFactory has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

Error signature;
AppName: dvdmf.dat
AppVer: 5.0.0.0
ModName: usbdvr~1.ax
ModVer: 4.9.0.0
Offset: 0000f09d

The program actually crashes when accessing the "capture" option...I don't actually get far enough to attempt a capture.

My burner is an internal Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-104 and the video content I am using is a one hour home movie captured in MPEG format through MF3. (I would have captured the video with MF4 but that is problematic as well.)

Thanks...

Video is recorded from a Hauppauge PVR250 with WinTV2K. Separate recording and editing/burning machines. Same PVR machine and parameters for years. Properties are:

File Size: 2704888872 ( 2.52 GB )
Program Duration: 03:00:00.26
File Type: PS - MPEG2
Encoding: MPEG 2
Video stream Id: xE0
Encoding Dimensions: 352 x 480
Display Size: 352 x 480
Aspect Ratio: 4/3
Frame Rate: 29.97 FPS
Bit Rate: 2.000 Mbps
VBV_Buffer: 224 KB
Chroma: 4:2:0
Audio Format: Layer 2
Audio Stream Id: xC0
Audio Bit Rate: 384 Kbps
Audio Sampling Rate: 48000 Hz

These files have historically worked very well with DMF 1-4, VS 6,7,9 as well as Studio Quartet.

I just wonder why it crashed at usbdvr~1.ax. It looks like a codec or USB driver or something related....

I just checked, usbdvr~1.ax should not be a file of any Ulead products, maybe you have installed something that is related with USB or codec in your system?

I think the burner should not be the problem. When DVDMF is trying to burn video to the folder it might just hang there because of the usbdvr~1.ax file I guess.

For phd, I think your case might need some further check by Ulead.

Hope this helps.

I too am having problems with DMF5....

Post by rs250r »

I have been very happy with DMF4 but 5 is not working at all for me. The burn engine incorrectly identifies the media as DVD +R DL no matter what media I put in either of my drives. Plus it says that the blank media has no space so it will not burn at all... even though the burn button is enabled which it should not be if the media has no space. So I guess I will continue to use 4 at this point.

Almost wish I had spent the money on upgrading one of my other "studio" products at this point... but guess I have to wait to see what tech support says.

Well, I too have problems with this MF5 trial version. Everytime, I save my third chapter of the slideshow after uploading jpegs, the system hangs and eventually crahes. My hardware configuration are as follows: AMD Athlon - 2.1 Ghz, 1 Gig PC2700 RAM; OS-XP2; HD-120 Gig WD;

When I do get the customise button to work the available options such as Frame, button or layout choices are are far more restricted than in MF4. Hopefully I can copy all the options from MF4 into MF5, but why should I have to?

Are you customizing the SmartScene Menu? You can customize it but it will not allow you to change the frame and layout.

I have DMF5 and its pretty stable on my machine. the only thing I noticed is that only a few templates, frames, layouts are included.

You have to fill it up and provide all the required information (system specs, product versions, OS, etc.) and get a case #. There has to be order and it has to be sorted out.

Can you imagine hundreds and thousands of emails comming in everyday on one same inbox. There will be confusion among the tech support people... who will answer what... which ones have had replies and need following up... what is the support history of this person... Moreover, the details to these queries will then be mostly incomplete and the support representatives will have to ask you back these details... a total waste of time!

So next time you complain about the technical support, make sure to read the policies first! When you get a warning telling you not to reply directly to "support@ulead.com", please comply.

Awwww poor, poor Ulead.

Uh... here's a novel idea for Ulead if they don't want to be burdened by their customers. Try releasing software AFTER you have fixed its deficiencies instead of using your troublesome customers as guinea pig beta testers.

And I guess it's better to have the repugnant customer waste THIER time filling out the same information everytime on the request page rather that store it.

Unaware of all this I purchased this morning MF 5. Installed it and never got it working, (see my post "MF 5 doesn't start").
It took my whole sunday to experience that I threw my money away.

The only (good) working version was MF 1 !!!!!!

I do not understand what all the fuss is about. I have had MF5 for a while now and everything works, or at least what I need to use. I capture via firewire from my Canon DV (using AV/DV convert). The authoring is fantastic, so is rendering or on-the-fly MPEG2 conversion. I only burn to ISO image and then use Nero to burn to disk. At least there is one happy customer out there!!
