I have a very sensitive project to do for a friend. Her grandson died while being born and as a result his skin tones were very dark. I offered to try to touch up the skin tones of her photos with a more life-like color. It's the least I could do for her. I used the colorize pen but it was like mixing colors and just couldn't get the right tone.
I would be most appreciative of your help.

I'm not an expert with PI, but here are somethings you might try: Use the lasso tool to select the portions of the picture showing skin and use your choice of level and color adjustments to get the skin tone you are after.
Using the Defringe or Match Background Color tools may be helpful if you notice an un-natural transition from the skin selection border to the rest of the image. If that doesn't help, you can use the Smear tool to blend the border once the selection has been merged with the base image.
