Hi,
I have a 1.2gb avi file(recorded in video capture 7) which i insert into a project file video editor 7...
If i try to preview it it renders about 25% of the file then hangs, if i try to export it, it does the same.
Upon watching closely, i noticed the video is running at approximately 4 times the speed, which explains the 25% - the video editor runs out of video and then hangs because it shouldn't have.
What is causing this? The audio is fine, if i turn on filmstrip mode all the correct frames render in the strip at the correct time on the ruler, if i drag the cursor and preview along with the mouse then it renders the correct from for the correct time.
But, if i just click the play preview button(whether on fast play or render-first) the video plays at 4 speed while the audio plays normally and the vertical line that shows the current position (cant think of its name) plays normally.
If i create a video file it renders 25% and hangs.
This is the first time i've run into this and i've been experimenting for the last 4 hours or so with framerates and all sorts of settings between the clip and the project (making them match, making them different, making one faster and one slower, vice-versa, etc) and nothing makes a difference.
If someone can help me i'd be extremely grateful.
Thanks
Video Running About 4x Too Fast

1. The clip properties dialog tells me: 24 Bit, 640x480 Microsoft RLE, Comp Rate 25%, Frame Rate: 29.993, Total Frames: 5786.
Although, i find that wierd since it should be uncompressed...
2. I've tried many of them, it all happens the same. The ones i want to use are:
Film (24 fps) <-(I've also tried 15, NTSC Drop and 30)
Overlay track(s):3
Microsoft AVI files <-(I've tried Mpegs)
24 Bits, 320 x 240, 24 fps <-(I've tried many different resolutions)
Field Order A <-(Tried B and Frame-Based)
XviD MPEG-4 Codec <-(Tried DivX and most other AVI codecs)
Interleave audio for every 1 frames
PCM, 24.000 kHz, 16 Bit, Mono
3. My system is a 1.4ghz AMD Athlon with 1280meg ram, 1 60gb hard drive 1 80gb (both have greater than half free space), GeForce 3 (64 meg), SB Audigy, Gigabyte 2004 RZ Motherboard, Running WinXP.
I highly dout its hardware related being that i've never had this problem before and i've always used this hardware.
Thanks for your time

You're right, that is weird.
For a clunky workaround, you could try splitting the audio and video tracks, then time stretching the video so it is in sync with the audio. Sounds dodgy and might look crap, but it might give you workable footage.
Have you tried playing the file in another player, that will tell you if it is a problem with the MSP or with the file.
Cheers.

I suspect you have file problems. Your clip is a nominal 193 seconds, yet is 1.2 Gb or 6.4 Mb/s, which is more highly compressed than 25%. I've never used XviD or DivX but I have heard that funny things can happen with high compression (also WMV). The you are further compressing it to 320x240 as part of your project settings.
IMHO, the best thing you can do is a) capture with a more mainstream codec at as high a quality as you can b) edit using the same settings and only then converting to the highly compressed format, if you can suffer the drop in quality.

The settings i used to record the original avi were not to compress it at all, so it should be uncompressed.
Also, it doesn't only do it when the project is xvid or divx, it does it with DV/CD/Online vid as well.
But, ill try reencoding it, quality drop wont hurt too much in this case.
Thanks for your troubles everyone
