Region 1 DVD will not play on a Region 1 player

Post by wmbell »

Hi all,

I am having a problem with the Ulead DVD Player 2.0 on my machine.... the DVD player is set for region 1, and I am getting errors playing Region 1 DVDs... I have tried several different movies - some new some older movies, but I always get the error that the disk is not formatted to play in this region.....I am running XP Pro, SP2, on a P-4 1.6 Ghz with 2Gb ram and 40 GB free space (NTFS)...

I have tried on another machine (P-4 3Ghz, 2Gb Ram, 90 Gb free NTFS) and am having the same issue ... in both cases the machines have the dvd drive set for region 1....

Any help would be appreciated...

What happens if you try alternative DVD playing software?
Windows Media Player should play a DVD provided you already have a DVD Player on the computer (Ulead DVD Player 2.0) as it 'pinches' it's DVD playing codec.

Where do you live? Maybe it's another issue, if you live somewhere else...

If you're not in north America, maybe the software is already set-up for PAL? Or, maybe you had a different-region drive installed when you installed the software?

Windows "knows" what time-zone you're in too. I don't know if that matters.

Hi All,

Thanks for responding.....

In response to sjj1805 - I'll try another media player to see what happens... I remember trying another one (don't remember which) and I got the movie but no sound... another one gave me sound but no picture...

In response to DVDDoug - I live in Canada... as far as I know, the dvd has always been set up for Region 1...
