Adding menu changes output resolution

Post by devo_111111 »

I've been editing video for a short while using MSP 8. My output to DVD has been just single clips with no menu required. Now I am trying to create a menu with buttons for 5 different clips.

Using the video capture utility the clips were captured from a Sony Z1U in 16-9. Each clip appears in DVD Ws 2 just fine in widescreen. If I just place one clip and then proceed to finish the clip plays normally. However, when I create a menu with 1 or 5 buttons linking to different clips, a problem cropped up. After clicking on the button the resulting clip played squished down into 4:3. All the clips played just in 4:3.

The properties of each clip showed up as 16:9. Any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong?

By the way I'm sure I don't need to get into how crazy it is that the menu page is reduced to 4:3. Will this be fixed soon?

Workshop 2 only creates 4.3 menus.
The underlying videos are not affected so you can still have 16.9 videos.
Because you have MSP8 you also have MF4 which does support 16.9 menus.

If your choice of ready made menus in MF4 is not to your liking, if you have
PhotoImpact then you can make your own menus (in much the same way as Workshop 2) from scratch.

Thanks for the reply Steve. From all your posts I can see that you are really into this, which is great!

I realize from other posts the limitation of the menu page to be only 4:3. But the clips that the page link too come out squeezed into 4:3 as well. That's the part that has me confused.

I'll try and find Movie Factory 4 and use that but I thought that DVD WS was the main software product uLead has for DVD creation. Shouldn't this menu limitation be fixed?

Thanks... Ian
