New DVD Burner not Recognized by VS 8

Post by msheldon »

I use VideoStudio 8 SE. I got it free with the purchase of a Firewire card.

I recently installed a DVD burner on my computer. VideoStudio 8 SE does not seem to recognize it. The 'Create Disc' button on the Share tab does not work.

On a separate note, Windows XP was recognizing it either. I ended up downloading a program called DeepBurner, which helped. I thought Windows had a built-in DVD burner program.

Also, does VS 8 allow for DVD burning with menus, etc.? Or do I have to get a dedicated program like MovieFactory?

I've tried to install the update packs and a couple do not work. The Daylight savings time patch will not install. It says that VS 8 is not installed and I should install it first. Then, if I try to install it with VS 8, it says that I have to close it first.

The same is true for VideoStudio 8 Update Pack (Build Number: 8.01). It gives me the same error message as above.

I actually uninstalled the VS 8 and reinstalled it...to no avail. It still did not recognize my DVD Burner. And to add insult to injury, the rendered videos I made no longer have sound. I even tried 'relinking' them. The 'projects' still have sound.

I know this is a lot, so thank you for any help and ideas in advance.

Regards,
Mark

Your create disc button probably is greyed out because it thinks you haven't got a DVD burner.
Have you installed the CD/DVD burner update?
http://www.ulead.com/tech/vs/vs.htm

Just to confirm does Windows detect the DVD burner, you say it does but the sentance is worded to give the impression it does not.

If that is the case then check
1. The IDE cable is correctly fitted at both ends
2. The DVD jumper settings are correct
3. The system BIOS is correctly set.

Mark,
VideoStudio 8 Will create DVD Menus and burn them.
It sounds as though you need to do a clean install.

This may help solve the problem. Regards

*Delete the contents of the 'C:\Document and settings\[username]\Local setings\Temp' folder. This is where self extracting installers extract the installer files. Hence, if there are any corrupt or duplicate files there, it might cause problems even if you reinstall a troubled software. It is safe to delete the Temp folder's contents. Those files where presumably put there because they are no longer needed after the installation.

*Uninstall VideoStudio temporarily from the Control Panel.

*Download WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe from the link below. Read the details as well so you can undertstand more about the issue it fixes.

*Reinstall VideoStudio 8 and since you have the SE version, download the update patch for SE from http://www.ulead.com/tech/vs/vs_ftp80.htm. Those of you who have the full version (ESD or retail), get the other update patch.

Take note of what Ken Berry said about "packet writing" softwares.

# How do I remove VideoStudio 8 manually when the InstallShield file is corrupted? I can't remove it from the Control Panel: Add/Remove Programs.

* It's possible that the VideoStudio 8 installation has been interrupted which caused the InstallShield to be corrupted. In this case, VideoStudio 8 can't be removed from the Control Panel: Add/Remove Programs successfully. Here is the process you may use to remove it manually and reinstall it.
1. Delete the "Ulead VideoStudio 8.0" folder in C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\.
2. Delete the "Ulead Systems" folder in C:\Program Files\Common Files\.
3. Delete { 4F 1DA6BF-3614 -48A 1-9970-9E 90F 646789E} in C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information.
4. Go to Start: Run, and input the regedit command.
5. Delete the "8.0" folder in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio\8.0.
6. Reinstall VideoStudio 8.

Note: The InstallShield Installation Information is a hidden folder. To display the hidden folder, please click the "Tools": "Folder Options": "View" tab. Change the option to "Display all files and folders."

DVD still not recognized by VS8

Post by msheldon »

Steve - thank you for your help with my issue.

Unfortunately, I am still not able to use the Create Disc button. (still grayed out)

Also, when I go to the 'Create video file' button, it does not list NTSC DVD as an option. It only has NTSC DV, NTSC VCD, etc.

I did exactly as you suggested in your previous email.

Just to clarify, I am using Video Studio 8 SE Basic. Does the Basic version not allow for DVD burning?

When I go to my computer, it says "DVD- RW Drive E:", so I know the computer sees it...in fact, I was able to burn files with the DVD burner.

Thank you for your help and suggestions.
