MSP7 Project not loaded, without error messages.

Post by sigir »

I have a MSP7 generated project file dated from 12th of january. I didn't work on the project since this time, because I waited for additional video material to complete the project. The file seems not to be damaged but it is not possible to load it again. There was no software update for a MSP product since 12th of january inbetween. There comes no error message or whatever. It can't be loaded by double clicking the DVP file so that MSP 7 starts and normally displays the project. It also can't imported nor opened when MSP Veditor.exe is running. The Info for the project works, all seems fine.

It is also not possible to load it with MSP 6.5, there comes no error message. I have tested this in the past. Normaly a MSP 7.0 DVP file can be opened with MSP 6.5 but with my file no alternative method works.

I have installed on a new partition with a new XP Prof the 7.3 MSP version and tried to open the DVP file, but this also didn't work. I have tried it also on a laptop with XP Prof on it, the same result.

Any ideas?
By the way: At the moment I write a DVP scanner and repair program, but this takes time. Does anyone have infos about the DVP format or a spec about it?

This is not the first time a DVP file is corrupt, but in the past I got error messages like 12345:4:5. This is clear for the user, everyone knows what went wrong.

I have put the file at my homepage at: http://home.arcor.de/siegfried.rauch/Advent.zip

Try opening a new project in MSP, putting in it a 1 second colour clip and then import your old dvp project. This often works.

Absolutely nothing.
I also tried using MSP 6.0 VE Edition and expected a message like that this version cannot load MSP V7 files, but there comes no error message.

Interesting, I downloaded your project file, loaded it into V7 and got the same as you, it just doesn't load, but I opened it in V8 without problems, except it obviously could not link to your components. I then resaved it as a new project in V8, but still could not open in 7.

My suggestion - download the trial version of 8!!
(who knows, you may like it so much that you buy it)

Opening works, but changing anything or scrolling leads normally to a VEditor crash.
The Va and Vb tracks are mixed to one line, the transitions are displayed wrong, the production lib doesn't display the correct tracks.
At least it was possible to render the project to MPG. Here are all transitions correct.
Unfortunately is no export to 7.0 version possible.
My bug in the project (is it really my bug, I have doubts?) is still unknown, so I will proceed to make an analysis of the project file.

I tried some other projects to work with and I tried it on three different machines. (1x VmWare with XP Prof with SP1, 1x Laptop with XP Prof SP2 and one machine with Athlon XP Prof SP2).
The software is definitly unstable. I think I will not buy it, it is it not worth. ULEAD Veditor crashed also in the past with V7.0 or V6.0 very often especially with longer projects or a lot of transitions, so I still know this behaviour.

But: Thank you for your hint, so I have not to work on the project a second time.
