Problem recording .m2t file back to HDR-HC1

Post by rrobbins6111 »

I have several .m2t files that I am trying to record back to the HDR-HC1 using Export DV Recording. I recorded four files, which took aproximately 28 minutes of tape time. The fifth file I tried to record, which is 10 minutes long, gets approximately four minutes into it when it starts to stuter. By this I mean if you watch the display on the HDR-HC1 it keeps starting and stopping through the end of the .m2t file. If I rewind the tape and play it, it gets to the same point and then starts flashing a time and dashes but not video.

I have gone back and just recorded blank tape over the same portion and it records without a problem. I have recorded another 10 minute .m2t file over the same area and it records with out a problem. I have defragmented the drive twice, moved the .m2t file to a different drive and recreated the video file with smart render turned off, all with the same results.

I have also viewed this file with the vlc viewer and it looks fine.

What am I missing here ?

Have you tried a different tape?

I haven't had any problem with recording back to my HC1, however I usually put all my files together on the time line and create one large file.
Try putting two files together and record back to tape and see if the problem is still there.

Thank you for your suggestions. I have pretty much ruled out it being a tape problem since I was able to record several other clips over the same area without a problem. I then tried to record this same file at the very end of the tape and experienced the same problem.

I am convinced it something with this file.

I will probably try to break this clip down into two smaller clips and see if that makes a difference. Right now it is only about 10 minutes long.

You might want to try to recapture the bad video clip if you have the original.

Rerender the new capture file and export to dv and see what happens.

I am going to experiment and see what makes a difference. The one thing that still confuses me though is that the .m2t file playes without a problem when viewed with the vlc player.

I do still have the original file but I have made a lot of edits to it to get the clip I am rendering.

I have tried several different things but I am still unable to record this .m2t file back to my HDR-HC1.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled MSP 8.

The project file is 11 minutes long. So I cut the project down to 6 minutes and recreated the .m2t file. When I try to record it back to the camera it gets 5:20 seconds into the file and then it starts stuttering. It will record for half a second and then stops for about half a second. This continues through the end of the file.

I then increased the project to 7 minutes and recreated the .m2t file again. Again when I try to record it back to the camera it gets 5:20 seconds into the file and starts stuttering again.

I then tried to record the file again but this time I stopped the camera by pressing the [STOP] button on the camera LCD screen. The file played through the end without any stuttering.

I then put the camera into the Record Mode so that I could control the recording from the camera. I started the record process through MSP 8.0. I then used the [RECORD] and [PAUSE] control on the camera LCD screen to record several seconds of the file every minute or so. This worked fine until I got to the point where the stuttering had started before. After that point every time I tried to record it would stutter.

I have a different .m2t file that is over 11 minutes long and it records back the camera without a problem.

I don't know how you are able to control your camera manually, the camera has to be in the play/edit mode for it to communicate with MSP8 for recording back to the camera.

If it is in the camera mode you can't record from the firewire connection.

There has to be something in the file that makes MSP8 act that way.

Did you try to recapture and render the clip again?

One of the menu items in the VCR mode on the camera is called Record Control. From this screen, on the camera, you have three controlls, [STOP], [PAUSE] and [RECORD]. From this screen you can start the record process from MSP 8 but then manually control the process from the camera.

I will try to recapture this again tomorrow. The problem of course, is that I did a lot of editing to get it to the 11 minute project that I currently have.
