Help with PhotoImpact 11

Post by deadarise »

hello, i just join in!

I have a picture of my favorite metal band that is black and white, so I wanted to know how to transform it to color ? I saw someone made a tutorial for that and the instruction confused me! I have to click every menu in my PI 11 and can't find it! I saw this from Ulead gallery page and this is what I wanted to do to my picture!

" Remove Moire filter, used the Tone Map and then tinkered with the Contrast & Brightness and Unsharp Mask. Once the black and white image was in relatively good shape, the Colorizer Pen was used at high transparency levels to gently colorize the image. "

I was looking for "tone map" and I don't see it anywhere! is there a shortcut key for PI 11 instead clicking every menu and buttons so I can find it faster!

thanks for the help!

Have you tried the advanced workspace? Still not sure what you are referring to. Which version of PI was that tut written for? In PI 11, the function you are looking for may be called something totally different. Can you post the link to this tut here?

I get you. However, that's not a tutorial and it doesn't state the version of PI used.

Got no idea as to where in PI 11 you could find this "Tone Map". Hopefully, another user experienced in that kind of work will come to your rescue.

Did you try to contact Steve Tyner?

I haven't found Tyner's website. I've seen it before but can not locate it now. However here is a tutorial site that talks about the tone maps...

Thanks for that vidoman, never connected tone maps with histogram. It all makes more sense now.

@ deadarise, you will find this in PI 11, Standard Photo workspace under "Photo" >"Auto-Process" >"Levels"

When trying to convert B&W to color creating a Tone Map is quite difficult and an art to master. Otherwise you are using the Lasso Tool, using the air Brush or Fill Tool to paint color, and then changing the opacity of the selected area, so the color will appear realistic. Requiring many layers, a difficult process and very time consuming.

You might try the Beta Freeware program you mentioned called Recolored that will colorize B&W's nicely. The commercial version is $49.

Here is the Recorlored Beta Freeware download:
