Importing DVD from DVD Recorder

Post by martyl »

I've recently bought a Cyberhome DVD Recorder so that I can start transfering home videos onto DVD (holidays, birthdays, etc). What I want to do is burn the whole tape onto DVD, then import the DVD into Videostudio for editing. Once edited, burn to DVD with menus, etc.

I've imported DVD before without any problems for other projects I've done, but when trying to import the DVD created by the Cyberhome DVD, I get an error message "Failed to open DVD. Report ID: 0x800408ff(2303). This DVD is a DVD RW and the disk has not been finalized.

On the DVD, there is VIDEO_RM and VIDEO_TS. The VIDEO_TS contains VIDEO_TS.VOB and VTS_01_1.VOB, as well as VIDEO_TS.BUP, VTS_01_0.BUP, DEFAULT.PLS, VIDEO_TS.IFO and VTS_01_0.IFO. The VIDEO_RM contains DVD_REC.USR, PVR_TEMP.USR, VIDEO_RM.BUP, VIDEO_RM.DAT and VIDEO_RM.IFO.

I've tried burning onto a DVD R, finalized (which has the same files), but when I place the DVD into my workstation and try to import, but VideoStudio freezes. Both DVDs work OK in DVD players.

I noticed an earlier posting saying to rename the .VOB as .MPG, which I did and this works, but it also says it doesn't work 100% of the time.

Any ideas?

Have you tried copying the entire DVD onto a Hard Drive folder then importing from there?
