I create CBT (computer-based training) for a living, and have been asked to create a DVD version of a project. Am seriously considering purchasing VideoStudio to be used in association with that work, as I have used other Ulead products that I really like.
One question I can't resolve is if I can incorporate files such as Word documents or PDF files into a DVD in some manner. Obviously, I can do this in the CD-based materials I'm doing now. If a totally DVD based solution is desired, is there a way to incorporate files of that type? They would probably have to be inserted into a computer with a DVD player installed. Comments?
Mixed Media DVD Authoring

But somewhere on this forum I read how to do it.
Download the trial version, and/or maybe the trial versions of Movie Factory or Workshop.
A regular video-DVD has two folders - AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS. The VIDEO_TS folder contains the move. (The AUDIO_TS folder is usually empty.)
A DVD player should ignore any other other folders. So, you can put your Word or PDF files in another folder.
The trick is to author the video portion of the DVD, and put the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders on your hard drive. Then, burn those folders, along with any other data-folders onto a DVD.
Movie Factory and DVD Workshop allow you to "burn" a DVD on your hard drive without actually burning a DVD. I think Video Studio will only make the hard-drive version while burning a real DVD. If this is true, you would waste a DVD blank with this technique.

In the Burn Step of VS9 (and MF3 or MF4 or DWS 2.x, and maybe some other titles from Ulead), burn a DVD Image file (ISO file -- not the DVD FOlders option). This will open up the extra options dialog where you can add a perosnal folder to your dvd image.
You should also be able to add the "Data folder" if you are burning to DVD±R/RW Disc.
You should include some instructions to the viewer on how to navigate to the "Data Folder" that you have included on the disc. Also, keep in mind you have to take the space for the Data Folder into account when budgeting your disc space for your dvd video.
