Need help in finding

Post by stevop7777 »

How to highlight something in a still shot. I have video footage of a mountain that has a giant rock that looks like a gorilla....the locals call it "King Kong".

I have a still of that rock (BMP) and I want to highlight just the gorilla rock so it is LIGHTER than the rest of the mountain...so it sticks out. Simillar to a sports TV show like ESPN when they would stop the clip and put a circle or square around the player who made a great play....and he is LIGHTER than the rest of the still video and or the rest of the players are DARKER than him, so he is highlighted.

Can anybody help?

Thanks in advance

You can easily do it in PI 11, even PI 8 may do it but I have not used this version.

Open the image and duplicate it (Ctrl+D), apply the mask tool and, using a white color paint brush on the mask, erase the mask where your gorilla sits. Don't worry if you overshoot the contours, you can always paint back the mask using black color. Once you are happy with what is shown clearly, deselect the mask tool and you will get the selection marquee around your gorilla. Using the selection menu, convert this to object. While your object is still selected, brighten it up using any of the tools provided in PI. Once you are happy with your result, hit enter key to deselect the object and save the resultant image to bmp for your project.

You can find many more tutorials on PI here http://www.pircnet.com/ and even enrol into a free beginners workshop.
