VS9 splits DV file :(

Post by Xyzzy2 »

Hello!

VS9, patched.
It splits DV capture into 4GB chunks. VS8 worked OK on the same disk.
Split by scene unchecked.

Any ideas?

Usually you get 4Gig chunks if you are using Fat32 for you hard disk partition.

What Operating System are you using?

He is using Windows XP SP2 its in his profile.
It does sound like your using FAT32 instead of NTFS.

My OS is under my System button (XP Home SP2).
As I wrote, VS8 captures over-4GB files without probelms -> disk is NTFS.

Here's the disk's properties:

Oops, sorry missed the problem was in the capture stage.
When you capture there are some options including split by scene etc.
Check those settings. Sorry cannot be more specific as I am enjoying a quieter period at work at the moment, not at my own machine!

Check your boot drive to see if is NTFS. The default setting for your working directory is on your boot drive under Document and Settings, your name.

Change your working directory in VS9 under File, Preferences, working directory.

ALL my drives are NTFS.

The problem was also present before Windows reinstallation I performed a few weeks ago (to fix problems with PhotoImpact btw).

Did you check your preferences to make sure you do not have "Split" activated for 4 GB?

Which setting exactly is this? "Split by scene" in options panel is unchecked.

BTW, I can use MS Movie Maker as back-up solution. Does any of you have experience with capturing with it (knowing MS, I am afraid it may do something "strange" to DV stream)?

Open VideoStudio and click the help button :?:
Then put the keyword "Split" in the search box.

The first item listed will be "Capturing Video" and you will find an explanation there with a few pictures.

My apologies, I had to get my camcorder out to check this one.
I have been capturing with Media Studio Pro since I upgraded and didn't realise the following:

isn't present in VideoStudio.

I thought the capture modules were the same. Just goes to show that sometimes you upgrade and only notice a difference when you revert to the earlier product and then find something isn't there!

Hey, X.
Had the same problems and yes, had to explain to folks here that I did indeed know the difference between FAT32 and NTFS etc, etc etc. Here's the reply I got from ULEAD Tech Support (yes! they really do exist!). I think it cleared up the problem for me. Good luck:

-----------------------------------------------------------------
Recv'd from ULEAD July 2005

Please logon as Administrator and try this reinstallation procedure;

1) Clean up C:\Windows\temp directory. Clean up all files in C:\Documents and Settings\[UserName]\Local Settings\Temp folder.

Uninstall VideoStudio 9 from control panel Add/Remove programs. Delete following folders =>C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio =>C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SmartSound Software Inc =>C:\Documents and Settings\[Username]\My Documents\Ulead VideoStudio =>C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems\

Proceed to step 2, even if you can't complete step 1.

2) Delete folder {88F92798-59AB-474F-B40D-1EC5F782F7EE} in C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information (Please set "Show hidden files and folders." in folder option in OS)

3) Please del the folder " Ulead VideoStudio 9.0" folder in C:\program files\ulead system

4) Run Regedit from Start/Run in Windows task bar

5) Delete folder {88F92798-59AB-474F-B40D-1EC5F782F7EE} in KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\ (If you always see Ulead VideoStudio 9 file name showed in the Add/Remove Program, please do point 5)

6) Then reinstall UVS 9 again

Best regards, -Nelson Duay, Ulead Support Team

chinito, so basically reinstall should do?

How did you cope with Smartsound patch and Quicktime?
Uninstall QT, then QS patch, then VS and install in reverse order + VS patch?

BTW, Movie Maker dumped DV OK.

It's always a good sign when the only way to get a program to work is to completely reinstall it...
