Worshop 2 drops audio completely

Post by maximus »

I'm completely baffled. I've been using Workshop 2 and loving it for over a year now. But during the last month or so, 2 of my projects have lost audio about half way through.

I'm importing PAL (R2) DVD video and converting it to R1 using TMPgenc 3.0, and then importing it to DVDWS2 for authoring. I've had good success, until about 4 weeks ago.

The audio is AC-3 and I'm authoring it with AC-3 with surround sound emulation. Iv'e tried unchecking the 'convert audio to disc template', I've tried importing the audio as a seperate wave file, I've tried using other programs to process the video and audio and the result is the same.

The only thing I can think of, is that workshop 2 is basically predisposed to creating single layer 4.7 gig DVDs, while I'm working with dual layer discs, and preparing them to burn on DVD-9s. Which still doesn't add up, because I've done it sucessfully before.

Any and all help would certainly be appreicated. Thanks in advance.

Still working at it

More than 25 views, and no responses? I'm discouraged.

Anyways, I've gone back to the first project that this happened on. this definitely has nothing to do with dual layer, or 8+ gig files.

The funny thing is that DVD Movie Factory 3 has no problem with this movie, it's only DVD Workshop.

I've even tried burning each as VOB files only, and then importing the VOB files from Movie Factory over to Workshop. Of course, that doesn't work. Hacking into them is way beyond me.

Does anyone have any practical suggestions at all?

I assume you have eliminated the obvious, what changed on your system between your process working and not working? PCs can do strange things but don't usually stop doing something without some sort of external influence.
The good old "catch-all" fix may work for you - uninstall then reinstall, you may be lucky!

You wouldn't want 25 responses each saying, "I can't help you", would you? In forums like this, silence usually means that the reader of a post cannot help you because he has no experience or knowledge of the problem.

import audio as separate WAV file

Post by dchoughton »

I began having the same problem after successfully using the software for over a dozen projects. The audio drops out of the last 5 minutes or so of each video file in the project (only on the final burned product, of course, not in the preview window). Who knows what system change could have caused it? I uninstalled then reinstalled the software (without the patches, since it worked fine prior to the patches) which didn't help. I also tried unchecking the 'convert to disc template' and 'surround sound emulation' boxes which didn't help. So I imported the audio as a separate WAV file and used it to replace the original AVI audio track. This fixed the problem. It's a bit annoying to have to do that, but it's quick and it works for me. Sounds like you already tried that, but others experiencing this problem should try it.
