Problems happen when retrieving a file

Post by Dardar »

I've successfully burned several DVDs since I learnt how to use this program. I enjoy viewing the DVDs at home, but there are several problems that upset me.

(1) The use of disc image: Can I retrieve the disc image from the Disc Image Recorder and burn it on a DVD to get an extra copy of the DVD I burned earlier? Or, is it just a data file? So, what's the difference of copying from a DVD folder? To be exact, should I get my extra copy from the DVD folder or the disc image recorder? Would someone please enlighten me on this? This is rather confusing and there is nothing mentioned about this topic in the "Help" file of the software.

(2) On retrieving the slideshow from the file for editing purpose, I discovered that the text I had added on the picture earlier was gone. I spent quite some time working on the description. It's really annoying. Could someone tell me why this happens?

Thanks. :(

1) You can make aditional DVDs in a number of ways. The easiest is to just copy the original disc with any burner copy software. If you want to add other files to the DVD you can use some burner software like NERO etc. to include the VIDEO_TS directory (which has your entire slideshow) plus any other files you want to include. If you are using version 4 selecting the "Create Disc Image File" will leave a copy of a .iso file. A .iso file is an ISO9660 format disc image and can be used by other burner software to make extra exact copies of your slideshow without having to read the original disc first. You can add things like autorun.inf That will control what happens when the dics is loaded on a PC. Selecting the options to include the Photo Files, Project File etc. will add a PROJECT_FILES directory with these extra items.

2) If you are using version 3 you MUST install tha latest patch to fix the problem where the text is lost when you save and reopen the slideshow. You can get it here: http://www.ulead.com/tech/dps/dps_ftp.htm

Thanks for your help. I've contacted the technical support of the local vendor here. The technician gave me the same reply as yours. What puzzles me is the text is lost sometimes but not all the times and I really want to know whether it's because I've done something or not. Actually, I enjoy using the software very much since the DVDs I've made so far recall the very happy memories of mine. Unfortunately, small defects happen here and there and on and off.

I'll try the disc image file and the patch to fix the problem. It is a pleasure to see someone willing to offer help. Thanks again.

I tried making another copy of the DVD by using the copy entire disc feature on my burner but the burning process was unsuccessful. It stopped at having copied 48% of the data. This is another thing which I fail to understand.

Missing text -
If you have version 3 and did not install the patch your description fits the problem, it is not something you have done.

Copying discs -
Make sure that you don't have this problem http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=817472
It took me a year to figure this one out. I has a lot of failed burns and bad discs that seemd to burn fine but the data was only half there.

This is basically a hardware configuration for the burner that Windows will set if the drive has had a series of errors which could be caused by inserting a bad disc at some time. Once it gets set to PIO mode you are not going to be able to make reliable discs.

I tried the disc image file, it seems to be working perfectly. I've successfully made an extra copy now and I'll try it on my DVD player later tonight to see if it really works.

The burner has been functioning well except on the occasion mentioned here. What's strange is that the original DVD can be viewed using the DVD player but not on the PC. When I inserted it into the DVD-rom, it can't be recognised and the PC kept on asking me to insert a media. When I viewed it at home on a TV screen through the DVD player, everything was fine. Again, it happens to a DVD or two but not all. Strange, isn't it? I used the same method to prepare the slideshows but got different results.

Thanks for your invaluable advice which has been extremely helpful. It is nice exchanging views with you.
