No sound after capturing video

Post by kabal2000 »

Recently I recorded my sons wedding using a remote mic with my camera. I have tried to capture the video into VS8. I have no problem capturing the video. When I try to play it back, there is no sound during the portions that I used the external mic. The rest of the video is fine, but anytime I plugged the mic in, there is no sound. The original tape plays back fine. When I capture the video, I can here the sound through the camera as well as through my computer. I also tried using VS7 with no luck. I took an MPEG click and tried to play it with a video player, with the same results. It does not appear to be capturing the sound with the video during the ext mic segments.

One unusual note...when I try to edit the clip, and use the timeline to look at the sound, it does show a sound level exists.

Can anyone shed some light on this? I am starting to pull my hair out!

Are you capturing as DV-Type1 or DV-Type2.
You may have to capture DV Type 2.

In the setup menu of your camcorder what are the audio settings set for?
MIX, Audio1, Audio2 etc.
Was the camcorders audio set for 12bit or 16bit 32khz/48khz when originally recorded. If 12 bit 32khz it cold be on the other audio track on the tape.
(That's the choices in the cam's audio section that says Mix etc).

I didn't know you had the option to capture in DV type 1 or 2. Where is that setting made?

The camera is set on audio1. The sound is recorded in 16bit.

A few more notes...I have done this before with other weddings and had no issues. In addition, last nite I opened Windows Movie MAker, and tried to capture using that program. It created an AVI file, and the sound was fantastic. So I have to beleive that there is a setting that I am missing in VS8.

If you are capturing via firewire click the 'options cogwheel' select Dv-type--
The camera is set on audio1. The sound is recorded in 16bit.

Hi
If you made an Avi using Movie maker you should be able to import the video file into Video Studio.

Does that play ok?

The AVI file that I created in Movie Maker plays fine. My next steps are to bring it into VS8 and work with it. I was just trying to understand why VS8 will not play the sound track.
