The point vidoman was trying to make above about packet-writing software is that there appear to be some pieces of packet-writing software out there which conflict with Video Studio in terms of controlling the DVD burner. (Basically, packet-writing software is for when you drag and drop files [i.e. packets of information] onto the burner drive and the files are written [i.e. burned] to disc. Windows XP provides its own, for instance, though a lot of people don't seem to realise it is there. But you can right click on a file and amongst the long list of things you can do, there is a 'Send to' message, and you can send it to your burner drive. You then get a message asking whether you want to burn it to disc, and you can either do so or wait till you have built up more files to burn. But even if you do burn, the burning process is such that the disc is left open for burning future files until its storage limit is reached.)

One of the programs I have had problems with in this regard is Nero's InCD. I had to physically uninstall the program to disable it as it does not allow internal disabling, unlike some other similar programs. But the conflict arose similarly to the problem you are now experiencing -- well into the burning process and just before the actual burning was to take place. Verrrry frustrating. But once I uninstalled InCD, and never let it or a similar program, back on my computer, the problem simply went away, never to return!

Hi Ken,
I was hoping that you may have found the answer, unfortunately it doesn't appear to be the case for me this time.

I uninstalled any DVD authoring software I had installed (InCD4, Nero SmartStart & Express, Cyberlink Power DVD, Cyberlink PowerProducer Gold), restarted the computer and tried to create the DVD file and ISO during the burn stage, guess what exactly the same crash in the same spot.

I must IMHO I haven't known a piece of software to have so many known bugs and conflicts (just read the number of posts with different problems) with proprietary software eg: Windows Update software, industry standard authoring software (Nero) etc....

I thought I would try VS 9 as I understand so many people are having a lot of problems with Pinnacle Studio 10, it seems from the number of posts that many peeps have probems VS 9 too as well as me.

I think the only solution 4 me is to start from scratch and stick with Power Producer that came bundled with the DVD player, at least I know it can at least write a file toDVD.

Thanks again to you and all the others who posted trying to help me, at least it hasn't cost me any money and I have learnt a fair amount, but at the cost of a great amount of frustration.
