VS Trial - Crash on burning
I'm new to VS9 and have been using the trial version for the last 10 days. I believe that I followed the recommended procedure on the sticky, but I get the serious error ' VS encountered a problem and needs to close' during the final burning stages of my trial project (I still have 12 hours of video to capture & edit, lucky me !). It gets through the stages of creating the VOB file during rendering but keeps crashing during the burning target disc stage after about 4 mins.
I have a new LG 4167B 16x DL Dvd burner, which works fine, and indeed it burnt the temporary .VOB file in DVD Producer Gold 2 (except it was very shaky on DVD playback, which may possibly be interlace problems as there doesn't appear to be many configurable settings in this software)
Do you experienced users have any ideas ?

Before we go any further, and with your assurances about following recommended procedures in mind, can you absolutely assure us that that you have captured and edited your project and then gone to Share > Create Video File > DVD first to produce your DVD-compliant mpeg-2 file. And then you closed your project, and went to Share > Create Disc > DVD and then built your menus etc and proceeded to burn the disc?
I ask, simply because you say the problem arose during the "final burning stages of my trial project". This could be perhaps understood to suggest you went straight from the project in the timeline to burning the disc, without first producing a DVD-compliant mpeg-2.

Hi Ken,
Thanks for the reply, you and JJ seem to the backbone of the support on this forum. Yes, I did create the MPEG2 compliant file first to ensure that nothing was in the timeline (45 mins or so of encoding, no probs), then created a new project inserted the clip, set the compression to 100% etc... then share/create DVD as the sticky says.
Any ideas, is there a way that I can check the properties of the temp .VOB file that were created to see if there is a problem with it. I did insert a JPEG image and an MP3 track onto the title, would this cause a problem. Following the creation of the DVD menu, I did close it and re-open it following the optional step
Thanks

Make sure you have "Do not convert compliant mpeg files" checked (hit the little gear icon).kingmacman wrote:Sorry thought I would mention the properties of the movie file clip are:
Size 384Mb
MPEG 2 - Lower Field First
24 bits, 720x576
25 Frames/s
Variable bit rate (Max 8000kbps)
LPCM Audio
48kHz, 16 bit, stereo
Are you creating a PAL DVD
Also, is the file size you posted correct? Based on the info you posted, the clip could be about 5 minutes -- in which case 45 minutes to encode could be an area of concern...
Did you include any menu background music in your DVD Project? If so, what format was it (.wav, .mp3, etc...)
Regards,
George

Yes did thatMake sure you have "Do not convert compliant mpeg files" checked (hit the little gear icon).
YesAre you creating a PAL DVD
You are quite right the video is 6 mins long, but it was composed of about 18 clips all heavily edited with 2 audio tracks and transitions etc..
Yes I did insert a JPEG picture and an MP3 file as background music at the DVD menu creation stage

So you:kingmacman wrote:Hi Ken,

Thanks
1. Created a new project.
2. Inserted the clip to the timeline
3. Then went to Share->Create DVD?
That might be the answer there. You should
1. Create a new project.
2. Go to Share->Create Disc /DVD
3. Add Video File
There should not be anything in the timeline/storyboard when you are going to the burn module to burn a disc. You might try that and see if VS still crashes...

Hi,
DVD Producer Gold, does it have any packet writing software? I think it is made by Sonic correct? If there is packet writing with this, it may be causing interference with UVS when VS tries to burn a disc.
You might try burning to your HDD, instead of burning to disc and see if you can do that. Simply uncheck the Create Disc, and click on the drop down arrow to the right to reveal more options:
1. Create DVD Folders <---This one
2. Create ISO file.

Hi Vidoman and GeorgeW,
I have just tried out both your suggestions, it does crashes at exactly the same point with and without the menu music and JPEG, and it also crashes in exatly the same place under the 'create ISO or DVD folders' when not burning to a DVD as it does when I am.
It passese through the 'Building disc content, Video/audio multiplexing' stage, through the 'finalizing VOB', and crashes at the beginning of 'Building disc content - writing to UDF disc image' at 88% total completion.
Power Producer Gold 2 is produced by Cyberlink, not sure what packet writing is and what I should be looking for in order to ascertain how a conflict could be occuring, but would have thought that the above would mean it wasn't a DVD writer conflict as it won't create the ISO's or Folders on the hard drive when not writing to disc.

I have tried in vain to star t from scratch, so tried a brand new project with new capturing, following the recommended procedure from scratch.
It still crashes at exactly the smae point as described before, with the same error, the details of the error are:
AppName: vstudio.exe AppVer: 9.0.0.0 ModName: lxdvdparser.dll
ModVer: 1.1.18.109 Offset: 00010e54
Not sure if this is of any help in identifying the cause of the problem.
Am glad I opted for the trial, anybody else suggest a better piece of software to use as I have 12 hours of mini DV video to capture, edit and burn ?

I hope we are not done yet, VS9 is a great program. It might be that the fix to your problem is addressed in an update/patch. Unfortunately the TBYB (trial) versions don't qualify for them.
One other possiblity is the Windows Installer. VS9 seems to use windows installer and numerous people (including myself) have had problems. I ran down the thread where this was addressed, and the fix that worked for me..

Still thinking and trying....

Hi Vidoman,
Thanks for sticking by and helping me. I installed the relevant msi.dll file into the directory with VS9.exe file, unfortunately it hasn't made the slightest jot of difference. Crashing at exactly the same spot. This workaround didn't seem relevant to me as I can capture and edit fine, it just seems that I have a big problem in the final authoring stage.
I'm stumped too. It may be helpful if there were some trial video files that you could download from the forum to test out the various problems in order to better diagnose where the fault could be. Just a thought
