Proble with VS9 auto movie wizard

Post by ramdaspillai »

I have tried to create a video file through the VS9 make movie (auto movie) under Tools menu. It makes the movie and append to a new VSP project. However, when I play the 'Project' the program crashes giving an error message "video studio has experienced an unexpected error and need to close". The second time I saved the appended move and played the project and it crashed. however, I am able to open the saved file. There is no way that I can play the project. Anybody can come to my rescue please.
Would appreciate an urgent response please.

Can you tell us exactly how you are playing the project: are you just clicking on it in Windows Explorer/My Computer? If so, project files usually won't open that way. You have to open Video Studio, then choose 'File > Open Project'. If you have not done that, then try it, and get back to use if it does not work.

Or are you opening the project correctly, but it won't play in Project or Clip?) mode? If so, what have you chosen under File > Preferences > Instant Playback Target? You need to choose 'Preview Window'.

You should also choose File > Preferences > Playback Method > Instant Playback, rather than High Quality Playback, as this will cause the project to be rendered into a high quality temp file and has been known to cause some problems for a few people.

If you have further problems, then we will certainly need to know things like what sort of video you were using in the project (its exact properties), and the project properties of your .vsp file.

Problem with Auto Movie Wizard

Post by ramdaspillai »

Hi, Mr. Ken,

Thank you for your quick response.

I am trying to play it in U lead after opening the .vsp file which I have saved. Even, when the auto movie is appended to the Ulead timeline, when I either click a 'clip' or the 'project' to play, the program crashes.
As I wrote before, I saved the the project without playing to see whether when I open it again in Ulead whether it plays. It doesn't. It just shut down saying error.

Under File > Preferences > Instant Playback Target? I have chosen 'Preview Window'.

In choose File > Preferences > Playback Method > also, I have chosen 'Instant Playback'.

I was using avi files directly captured from pansonic digital NVGS70 camera. Its properties are PAL 720x576 25 fps Audio 48 Khz PCM (usual project settings).

The project properties of the VSP file is PAL DVD with MPEG sound. However, I have made separate .vsp files with all different project properties and it still has the same problem.

However, one thing positive I noted is that in VS8, I can directly make a video clip (MPEG2) of the created auto moview. Now I am creating auto movie in VS8 and then import the clip to VS9 to make editing. But, I am deprived of the new features available in VS9.

Hope you will be able to find a solution.

Thanks

Hi Pillai

Is the problem only after using the Wizard.

If you import the Avi directly into the Editor Timeline does the clip play ok.

If you can play the Avi using VS 8 then I can only suspect a faulty VS 9 installation.

What are the exact video clip properties, right click the clip in the timeline and select properties, what are they, (video compression) etc.

Have you applied the update patches to VS9?

Hi, Mr. Trever,

Yes, the problem only when using Movie wizard. I can import the AVI clip direct to timeline and play and make a project as well.

I had a look at the properties and it is:

File: Microsoft AVI files-OpenDML, 25 fps, data rete 3515.62 kbps

Video: DV video encoder Type 1, 24 bits, 720x576, 4:3, total frame 515 frames.
Audio: DV audio-PAL, 48000 kHz, 16 bit, stereo, 988,800 samples.

I have the VS9 patch installed (i think it was sometime Oct. 2005).

Should I reinstall VS9 and see.

Thanks

Hi Pillai

The settings you have provided look good to me and are the ones I have used in the past.

It seems strange that you can insert the video directly into the timeline and only have problems when going through the Movie Wizard.

Most video studio users work with the Video Editor and not the Movie Wizard.
The wizard is good and provides some useful ideas to video editing.
Working with the Editor allows you to create your own video projects, not relying on the standard templates.
Anyhow that does not sort your problem.

Does the project fail using other types of video files or is it related to the same one.
It may be a faulty / corrupt Avi file. Incorrect video files are very hard to diagnose.

Try a different file in the Movie Wizard, if you get the same results then I would suspect a faulty installation.

Re installing VS 9 should not be a problem.

All the Best

Trevor
