Hi TSJ, welcome to the forums..
Are you trying to play the VSP file? The only application that will open or run a VSP file is Video Studio. It is a project file, just data on what parts of your video clips you are using, the edits, transitions, etc..
In order for Windows Media Player to play it, your project needs to be rendered. In other words you need to create a video file.
Go to the Share tab. Click on Create Video File. Then choose the format, DVD-NTSC (or PAL), wmv, MPEG, .mov. Then enter a name for the video file to be saved as. Click Save.
Now VS is creating a video file. When it is done you should be able to view it in various media players.
That's a real short description but should get you there. However if you follow the Recommended Procedures you will learn a good workflow for capturing, editing and creating video files, and DVDs.

I have several videos I've created using the ulead program. I need to convert them to mov files and compress so I can add them to my website. I'm pretty much clueless on file conversion and compressing and was hoping someone could help (please).

Re: convert VSP to play on media player
If you've saved your project as 'PAL-DVD' you can simply drag and drop this onto your media player and it should play without needing converted (depending on what formats your player supports). This is what I do with my Zen Vision M and it works fine. I can't speak for projects saved in other formats as I've never used any other, but it certainly works for those saved as 'PAL-DVD'.TSJ wrote:I have finished a project. Burn it to a CD. Sorry, I've just realised that you were taking about computer based media players, not portable ones!thebiggfella wrote:If you've saved your project as 'PAL-DVD' you can simply drag and drop this onto your media player and it should play without needing converted (depending on what formats your player supports). Add the video file in the VideoStudio timeline/Storyboard...Felix4u wrote:I have several videos I've created using the ulead program. Go to share step, click Create Video File, choose Custom, select Quicktime MOV as your 'Save as file type', click options and modify properties as desired.
Save/render.

Thank you for your reply.
I clicked on "share" but my only options for saving are:
Best Quality (*.wmv)
Good Quality (*.wmv)
Medium Quality (*wmv)
Low Quality (*wmv)
Browse for wmv upload
When I try to "save as" the normal way, it doesn't give me any options, just the
"Save as type": UVS Project 10 files (*.VSP)
What do you think I'm doing wrong? I really appreciate your help.

When you click Share > Create Video File, choose Custom (at the bottom). Then in the Save As Type box you should see QuickTime Move Files (MOV)

Three solutions dependant upon where you intend to place them on the internet.Felix4u wrote:You're wonderful!!! Thank you- any suggestions as to how I compress to add them to my website?
Thank you so much!

1. Rendering for You tube
2. On the VideoStudio Share Tab there is one named Share video Online.
This creates a file on your hard drive and then invites you to upload it to 'Dropshots' (A bit like You tube) just decline the offer but use the file it created on any other suitable site.
3. Share on a web page.
for this one you select a video in the library and then click the

- Greeting Card
- Screen Saver

Ah ha, you just solved one of my problems after hours of trying to cut a video down to just what I want to see in it. I used your above quoted actions to change the pvs files to wmv files but I have one question. There are several different wmv files to choose from. Which will give me the best video quqality because I eventually want to burn these to dvds.vidoman wrote:Hi TSJ, welcome to the forums..

Still having issues with quality after editing
I have followed all the steps above on how to save edited videos. However, I wonder which version of VS shows the wmv files in high quality format. I don't see that when I select share, create video file. I tried using the Create Video File and all I get is wmv 320x240, wmv HD NTSC, wmv smart phone, and wmv pocket pc.
When clicking on the custom file, all I see for wmv is wmv, asi* and I save in .wmv.
Now I have tried to burn a disc using all different type of files extensions to see the quality. In using wmv 320x240 the dancing portion of my video is not the same as the unedited file. It looses the quality during that section. The colors are not sharp.
I tried using NTSC DVD and that almost doubles the mb size of the edited file and the quality is not all that great. The video is practically in black and white. It also show like a double screen, meaning there is video showing at the bottom on the screen that is very grainy. None of my other videos have that bottom screen.
I tried the WMV HD NTSC and that disallowed the viewing of the wmv 320x240 when played on the dvd.
Also I tried the custom mpg format since I want to use that with just the dancing portion and I want to convert that to use with my portable multimedia player. That too is of poor quality.
The complete origninal wmv file (unedited) is a nice sharp image)
How can I solve these problems?
Thanks, Karen
BTW, which version of VS is Felix using that gives him the option of choosing the quality of wmv files? I am using V9 and I don't get those options.

What videos on YouTube are not grainy? YouTube heavily compresses the video. They limit you to the size of the video you can upload, then they compress it even more. What you see is what you get.Felix4u wrote:I'm having the same problem knowing which files will present the best quality. I posted a YouTube video and the quality isn't very good- real grainy but plays flawless on dvd or on my pc. Any suggestions would be great-
