I looked at the tutorial for adding transitions. Very Interesting. I don't have Photo Impact, but I do have some BMP files that might make nice Mask Transtions. Is it possible to just add the bmp's to the appropriate ulead folder? and if so, which folder is it???
thanks.

H Ilene,
Yes you can..
Just make sure to select a transition effect from the Mask C. Then select the customize button. When it opens to the Right there is icon/button that says current. Clicking on it opens a dialoge where you can browse to your bmp file, select and use it...

The images are greyscale BMP images and so you can create them with any photo editor. The white areas areas behave as though they are transparant and so allow the picture to show through, black blocks things out.
Shades of grey will allow some of the picture through, the level depending upon the brightness of that shade of grey.

anyone have any thoughts on how we can get the pinnacle effects to work with ulead? It's a bummer that some have posted that they did work with earlier versions of VS....

There is an excellent tutorial by forum member Klowther showing how to make your own transitions using 3D production Studio.

cant fade in on first scene nor fade out on last scene
I am a Pinnacle 9 user that loves their interface and features but fed up with the bugs/crashes. As I evaluate VS9, I can’t seem to figure out how to add transitions before the first video clip or after the last clip. I just want to fade in on my first scene and fade out on my last. VS9 seems to require an A & B. Also, I can’t seem to add transitions to my titles, except using the built in title animation that only offers a fade in or fade out. I want a fade in then fade out.

Hi Wasser, welcome to the forum,
1. To add transitions to the beginning and end, you have to add a color clip. Select the drop down in your Library, choose color. Then drag a color to your timeline, one before your first clip, and one after your last clip. Now you can add the transistions.
2. VS does not allow transitions in the overlay track, or title track. For your title Fade in, and out (cross fade) press the TT beside the animation, type. A menu will open where you can select the Cross Fade. Now you can further control your fade, by dragging the Trim Handles to the left or right. When your text is selected in the preview window, you can mouse over the trim handles and the tool tip will say Pause duration. Sliding the Left handle to the left, shortens the amount of time for the fade in. The same applies for the right handle, being dragged to the right.

Where did you find these? I would like to see some examples. How much were they?I have the Burgers free transitons, I've purchased Boris Fx, and the Canopus VFx...which have added a lot of value to VS9. I also like to use the Hollywood Gold Fx and don't like to use Pinnacle as the backbone of my projects.
Ken or someone showed me the Burgers transitions a while back. I have enjoyed those, but I would like to find more and would not mind paying a "few" dollers for them. I wish I had the time to make my own.

This is another Frequently Asked question and so I have updated our FAQ list.wasser wrote:I am a Pinnacle 9 user that loves their interface and features but fed up with the bugs/crashes. I downloaded Video Studio 10 Plus today and marked that the number of transitions in Ver.10 is quite less. Infact, there are many transitions that are present in Ver.9 that are missing in Ver.10.
Is there a way by which I can import or copy the transitions that are present in Ver.9 to Ver.10.
By the way, thanks for the link to Burger's transitions. Do you have any more such links where in I can get some more free transitions.

Going from memory here as I'm at work and my copy of VS10+ is at home downloading.
The transitions should be in the vfx folder, with VideoStudio closed you should be able to copy your exisiting transitions from the version 9 vfx folder to the version 10 vfx folder. Open VS10 and they should be there.
To avoid overwriting any new VS10 transitions with Older VS9 transitions.
1. Go to the VS10 vfx folder rename it vfxold
2. Copy the VS9 vfx folder.
3. Goto to the VS10 location containing the renamed vfx folder and paste your VS9 copy.
4. Copy all of the content from the renamed vfxold folder into the new vfx folder.
'C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio 9.0\vfx_plug'
to
'C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio 10.0\vfx_plug'
