Removing date and time from video footage with Videostudio 8

I am struggling with some old footage taken on analogue Hi8, problem is that this camera had a design fault, a time date button on the side which if accidentally depressed would add the time and date to the bottom of the movie, the viewfinder didnt really indicate the problem.

It is now converted to DV-AVI, so I find myself with some very precious video with the time running along the bottom. Is there anyway with Videostudio 8 to remove this ? If I crop the picture during these passages is there any way to keep the same aspect (so the pictures are neither stretched or squashed. Don't think Mrs Burgo will want her wedding video squashed so that she looks heavier than she really was

No there is no way to remove it in UVS other than cropping, the only other alternative is to place a transparent overlay in the second track with something solid on it to cover the time code, (line of Roses, line of Hearts, or just a solid colour bar - you choose)

Is there anyway to force VS8 to keep the same aspect ratio once I have cropped the segment ?

My first thought was to add a graphic over the offending time and date but I would ideally like to lose it completely.

Crop it to preserve the 4:3 aspect ratio if you want to fill the screen and have the sharpest pictures. Select Preference: "Keep Aspect Ratio"

I joined this forum today, simply because I didn't know it existed. I use videostudio8.

There is no 100% effective way of removing the date and time stamp. However, there is a way, but not VS8.

Lookup the free software VirtualDub by Mr. Avree Lee www.virtualdub.com. There is a free filter logoaway written by someone else. Once installed, and with a little patience, the time stamps or logos can be removed to produce not so bad results. What's more, Virtualdub provides many interesting filters not found in VS.

Virtualdub does not capture from firewire interface. It writes only avi files. you will need lots of HD space to use virtualdub for longer footages.

Hope it will work for you. I could manage it.
