Use a lower bitrate. (Choose a different "template", or make your own template.)

Higher bitrate = higher quality = more disc space = less compression
Lower bitrate = lower quality = less disc space = more compression

A Bitrate Calculator may help.

My "rule-of-thumb" is 90 minutes per DVD. You can get that with a 6000k bitrate and Dolby AC3 audio. This bitrate is typical of commercal DVDs (The DVD spec allows bitrates up to about 9800k, audio & video combined)

When you squeeze more than 2 hours on a (single-layer) DVD, you start to see the video-quality degrade. You'll have to judge for yourself... There are lots of variables including the quality of the source video, the quality of your TV, and how critical you are.

The error message you're getting might indicate that you need more temporary hard disc space. In that case, you'll need to free-up some space, or upgrade to a bigger drive. (Workshop seems to need about twice as much temporary space as the DVD.)

I'll add a rejoinder to Doug's message. Use 6000 kbit/s CBR, 85-90% quality and AC-3 stereo (2.0) at 192 kbit/s. With average non-motion menus, no sub-titles, no extra audio, this will give you about 85 minutes play time. Do not try to fill the disc to the very edge; I always aim for 4.0 - 4.1 Gb.
