Loading Error
Hi Team;
I recently started having this problem, can you help me solve it?
When I initiate PI 11, it stops at the u32Jpg.fio... just sits there like
forever then the load screen just disappears and there's no PI11
workspace.
Weird, uh?
Any how, this is what I have tried already.
1. I ran it from the start menu program file ulead folder icon and
it loaded no problem, so far.
So I deleted the desktop icon and replaced it with a new one from
the start menu program file ulead folder. It didnt work.
2. I created a shortcut from the C:\ ...Ulead folder, to the desktop.
It didnt work either.
3. I did a repair. Still didnt work.
4. Ive checked all my desktop settings and nothing has changed.
5. Ive checked my other graphic programmes and they all work with
no changes or errors.
I should note that i did all this over the course of the week, not one
step right after the other.
Any ideas on this?
Also, I tried downloading the update, it just wont go. I went and did a
whole load of dishes waiting for it to get to the download and the
browser meter moved 3 notches. I cancelled.
Thanks
TF

Click start, and go to the PI shortcut as usual, but instead of left-clicking to start it, right-click on it. Click on copy. Click the Start button again to close the start menu. Now right-click on the desktop and click "Paste" to put that same shortcut on the desktop.
As for the cause of your problems, pretty hard to say without digging around on your PC myself.
As for the download issue, keep trying. Ulead's site seems to be hit and miss. Some days nothing works, other days no problem.

Thank you, Robert.
I have already tried that, see my message..LOL
I have no other graphical software, other software or hardware, problems.
I do have knowledge of computers, software, etc.
I use Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, Elements, Bryce, Corel Picture Publisher,
Expressions, etc. so PI is among good company..LOL
I run PI on a P4P Asus Mother Board, 2.6gigcpu, 1024mb RAM, Ati Radeon Video Card 9600 Series, 80gig hd, 40gig hd, burner,
dvd-cd-rom running Win XP Home.
I guess I am stuck with running it from the Start Menu Folder...LOL
Well its better then nothing.
If anyone should find a solution as to why this occurs, it would be great
to find out, so I'll check back.
Thanks again, Robert

Right Click on the Destop Icon, select Properties, and in the Attribute named Target: (replace with the following link)
"C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead PhotoImpact 11\Iedit.exe"
u32jpg.fio is a Microsoft file that thrid parties can alter to their specifications when processing an image. If the problem reoccurs go to the "C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead PhotoImpact 11\FIO" and rename u32jpg.fio to u32jpg.old. You lose the functionality of jpg but Ulead will work.

okay, keenart. Ive done that already as it was suggested in another post, but thank you just the same
but despite that this is just way too much for me, is this program a joke or what...here's why...
After logging in at Ulead & downloading the patch this is what I got:

So I went to check in all these places:
Add and remove programs:

Start Menu:

Windows Explorer Program Files:

This is the download from this morning:

So I went and reinstalled and its the same thing as above.
The updater icon sits in the tray and refuses to open now.

Rebooted and everything.
Can I get my money back? I bought this in December 2005.

If retail, after the 30 days your SOL. For download, I do not think you get your money back. You would have to contact Elements to find out. Heinz could tell you more about that.
Ulead has always had download problems, know one seems to know why and as a result I have always stayed away from the download and bought the Disc. I have an occasional problem, but uninstalling and reinstalling usually does the trick.
In your case, it sounds as though you have a bad download or a damaged registry. I do not know if you can get the physical Disc. But, if you redownload you may get a more current working version.
I do not speak in defense of Ulead they have to take care of their own, but I have all of the major graphic editors, PSP, PSD, Car, Draw, Vue, DAZ, Poser, and a dozen others. I have created more than 25, 000 images and stored them using Ulead. As an artist have written many Tutorials, books, and designed Web Sites in the past 15 years and I get far more work done with Ulead than all of the others combined, but it was a steep learning curve. AND, I had to weather all of the glitches. My other two favorite Editors are Paint Shop Pro X, which crashes on me every ten minutes, and Photoshop CS2.
You gotta do what you gotta do to find peace! TOO bad LIFE is do DA**ED complex.

i have tried everything, i give up.
ive taken pi11 off my system.
no programme should have so many issues.
i am very disappointed.
this software was suggested to me by a very graphically educated person whom i trust and who has worked with pi since v4.
i bought the full 2 disc version directly from uleads' element 5.
i never download software from the internet, just patches and add ons, directly from the developers of any software i have.
my 30 days expired long ago. i bought it in december but didnt receive the physical disc till january due to element 5, wont even go into that.
never installed a demo of it.
that means im stuck with software i will never install again.
what a waste of money.
i, too, use many graphical softwares, as you can see by my desktop image.
i have NO PROBLEMS with my system, my registry or any other software.
and my systems hardware has no issues either.
im not sure if you seen my post of creditials, but i am far from an idiot when it comes to computers. Ive been in the computer business since win 3.1 thou i worked with computers prior to that while going to university, 27 years ago.

My PSPX never crashes and neither does any other software on my system.
The PSP community knows me very well. I help people just like you with psp issues, maybe you should drop by our site and get some advice...LOL

Thanks you all for your assistance. Youre a great bunch. I wish you luck and success in all you do.

PSPX is also one of my favorites also, it is a memory issue and the way my motherboard translate fast writes to the AGP. PSPX and Python, well upgrading the board is the only option.
I will check you guys out later, I too have had computers since the 70's, hate them, but love what they can do with art.

are you the 'oldman' over at pspug.....lol
seen a post in re to this....
with psp x some are having video card issues.
have a look under the pspx topic and you'll see the solutions, etc.
but you seem to know what is causing your error, which is good.
yes go get a new board, the one i use is cheaper now. buy out of season.
I suggest any of the asus boards. ive never had a problem with them.
Unless you can afford alienware...lol
i always buy sets (mb, cpu, ram)
everything is going for pretty good prices now for those who build their own.
i feel sorry for those who go out and buy the cheap computers on the market today. they think they will rock but they roll....right out the door to the garbage bin...lol Good for anyone who doesnt play the new games or do graphical work....you know, the old word processor type....lol
Have a great day.

In most cases, the video card itself is usually not the problem but the software that support it. However there is a common problem that often causes graphic cards to malfunction. When a user forgets to uninstall the old drives and upgrades with a new card over the old, BAD VOODOO!
The way MMX and OpenGL writes are translated and the memory addressed is usually the main problem.
Crashing software is ordinarily a selective occurance depending upon system configuration and the CPU and how they handle the MMX and OpenGL. Unless a programmer really screwed up, in which case a patch is put out to overcome the problem. However, many software compnaies don't write patches because the incompaitbility is often selelctive and therefore only a limited number are effected.
I like the Gig and Tyan boards, very stable, and always buy the combo. Do a lot of research on what works before making additons.
Overclocking and damaged memory are at the more common reasons for software and system crashes.
As you say "cheap" does not always work.

This was posted in the PIRC Bulletin Board as a tip that Acadies (Norma) (one of the members there) got from Ulead. I'm sure she won't mind me sharing here. I would give the link, but you have to be a member there, and I don't know if you are. It's free. Anyway, here's what she said Ulead told her to do:
Hello Everyone, I was unable to apply the patch cause it could not found PI v.11
Did email Ulead support about it. Below you will find what they told me to do. I did follow it step by step. And it sure did cure the problem from not installing the patch. I'm a happy camper now..... They reply within 2 days, which is great considering the amount of email support they get.
So here is what they told me to do. Hope it could help some of you as well.
The first step in troubleshooting this kind of problem is to reinstall the software. This is to ensure that there are no corrupt program files in your system. A simple reinstallation or repair from the control panel might not be enough. Please perform the reinstallation procedure this way:
1) Launch Windows Explorer and go to tools\folder option\advance setting to check "show hidden files and folders".
2) Purge/delete all the files in these folders:
"C:\Windows\Temp"
"C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Local Settings\Temp" (for WinXP)
"C:\Documents and Settings\[User Name]\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead PhotoImpact\11.0"
3) Uninstall PhotoImpact from control panel Add/Remove programs
4) Delete the folder "C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead PhotoImpact 11"
5) Reinstall PhotoImpact 11.
6) Install the patch.
Note: Make sure you still have a copy of the installer before you uninstall the software. Before installing, please temporarily close other running programs or applications including antivirus, norton utilities, screensaver, other memory resident programs including Internet connection, etc. to avoid unnecessary conflict and restrictions within your system.

It worked for me and I am back to using PI 11 with NO PROBLEMS.
Even my desktop icon works now.
I am a happy artist again...LOL

Excelent!! Another satisfied customer.
Seems like when us old folks get backed into a corner, we do our best work....
I believe, if you drill down deep enough into PI and experiment enough you will find this is a pretty darn good product for any artist. Combined with PSPX they are like a happy set of twins.
Best regards!

It is a fantastic product.
Which was why i was so disappointed when all this began to occur.
I am always up to the challenge to learn new ways with graphical programs.
Now that everything is back to normal i will be using it till ive mastered it.
Thank you, Keenart, for your time & patience.
And to all who contributed to helping me out.
All the best to you & yours.
