1200000x12000000 pixels

Hi there, i have big problem ("BIG" is the right word like you´ll see):

I use PI8. I´ve been working on a cd cover (2835x2835px) over the last days. Off course i saved it as UFO-file. Last time i tried to save it a window popped up telling me "file not accessable". I tried again and it worked.

Today i tried to open the file put a window popped up, telling me that i cant open the file cause its bigger than 32000x32000 pixels. i watched in the file info from the opening screen and it tells me that the file is about 1200000x1200000 pixels, the preview screen shows me only the backgound of the file.

The Computer i work on is not connected to the internet. There are surely no viruses or sth on it. My System is a 3,2Ghz Pentium, 580GB Harddiskspace, 1024MB DDR Ram, Radeon 9800 pro 128mb, No other processes than the system ran while this occured.

I guess i cant work with this file anymore in PI anymore, so here are my questions:

did anyone of you have this problem before?
Why did it happen?
Is there anyway that i can access the file outside of PI?
Is there a way to edit the fileinformation in the editor or sth?

Thx for every answer!!

Hi,

I've never seen a file grow in size on it's own. Apparenlty the last time you worked with it, the modifications boosted it to that huge size.

You probably can not use that file if PI will not open it. My guess it is corrupt. Do you have any other Ulead products? For instance you might try using a Video application (video studio, DVD MF, MSP), to see if they will allow the image to be imported.

Pardon me for my ignorance but what is sth?. I use other image editing applications such as PSP9, and Corel Draw. I don't think they will allow the UFO format, even though PI will open their files...

I know that isn't much help...

i dont know how it became that large, but it wasn´t me... when i saved the file it still had 2835x2835 and i could view it.

I tried to do the same work again, and the same thing happened (Offcourse this time i worked with backupfiles). There are about 1300 Objects in the project. Is there Something like an "Objectmaximum" that isnt mentioned anywhere?

I know that they dont allow to open them.. i usually do work with other products as well, but i made the basic-picture for that cover with PI, so i did the other stuff also with it...

"sth" is short for something.

YES, somewhere between 32,000 x 32,000 and 36,000 x 36,000 for 32 bit. Anything bordering on those demensions will not save or crash. Sounds like your dimensions are around 64 bit, don't know if Ulead supports 64 bit images.

i know about that 32000x32000 limit, but my question was if theres an object-maximum in PI. Not for the size of the objects (ok, while writing this post i realized this could also be an factor) but for the quantity of objects. i just wrote to the ulead support-team on that topic

Ordinarily, there is a maximum 255 objects per file of a maximum size of 1.9 Gig uncompressed. Microsoft says 1000 to 5000 objects depending on file size.

Personally I have worked with 24 x 30 inch photos at 180 DPI up to 1000 objects with file sizes of 750 megs for years and have no problems, except for the occasional blank image every few thousand or so. I attribute this to an incorrect save on Ulead’s, Microsoft, or Norton’s part.

As far as the max goes, some programs warn you of impending disaster and others do not, so as you say Tech Support may be your only option.

Have you tried to do a partial open on your file? That might work. If you don't know how to do this, there's a tutorial here: http://wwell.net/tutorials/pi8/partialload/
