No icons for associated files
I've applied the update pack 1 for PI11 and now have no icons for file types associated with PI. I can set them manually from the Folders Properties but the next time I run PI11 they vanish again.
The Iedit.exe file (main program) appears to have only one icon in it, the normal icon for associated files being in Iedit_.exe (the program launcher) but if I associate files with this icon they vanish on the next run (I've even saved out the icon and associated files with this but the same happens).
It's not a major problem but annoying all the same, I wondered if anyone had any ideas?

There is only 1 icon in iedit.exe.
Try the following to see if it cures the problem with associations.
From windows Explorer find one of your file types you want to associate with PhotoImpact.
Right click the file then select "Open With"
Ignore the list that may appear even if PhotoImpact is a part of that list.
Now select the bottom most item "Choose Program."
This time you can select PhotoImpact if its in the list, if not navigate to it.
Make sure the check box
"Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" is ticked.
Hopefully this should cure the problem and you should now see the Iedit icon for this file type.

Registry
Thanks Steve, that had been my first approach.
Got a work-around for the icon issue now:
First set UPI icon "manually", the way you proposed (file types).
Then open registry editor and go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PI3.Image\DefaultIcon.
Disallow current user to "set value" for this key.
On my machine the icon is stable now ...

Hi Jens,
Could you just clarify the registry fix for me? In the appropriate key I only have a 'Default' text key holding the path for PI11 plus the icon index (1). Do I need to set up another key called 'Disallow Current User' or set the value of the 'Default' key to "Disallow Current User"?
The PI11 update 1 pack seems to have made a bit of a mess of my image file associations. Even when Explorer shows them correctly other programs (Outlook, Dreamweaver etc.) don't show the correct icon.
Thanks,
Paul

DefaultIcon key
Hi Paul,
problem is I got a German Windows and don't quite know the English technical terms ...
Here's a screenshot of the key (on my machine):

Now please right-click the "DefaultIcon" key and select something like "rights". Then click the button something like "advanced".
Select the current user (from the list) and click the "edit" button. Next, disallow "set value".
Click OK and OK. That should do!
