Pictureshow 3 issues

Post by bluesman »

Just started to use V3 (V2 was rock solid) and so far, have come up with the following observations:

1. After creating a VCD and putting it in my DVD Player, the show played but instead of watching my pics with a 3 second interval, it was playing at about 3 pics per second. Totally unwatchable.
And all of the pan/zoom/transition effects seemed to have disappeared (although it was running that fast I could not be absolutely sure)

2. Using the same pics I used to create the VCD, I decided to create a DVD. At the output stage, I decided to export to a DVD folder first.
Started the output at 15:00.
Cam back 90 minutes later and it was only at 3%.

I know that my PC is fine as it runs every other very intensive process very well, including all my Video editing, DVD authoring (using DVD Workshop 2) etc.

Is anybody else experiencing the same issues ?

I have all the prigram updates installed too

I've played around a little more and found that if I have the pan/zooms/transitions in effect then the expected output size is 3.7Gb.
If I take them out, this is reduced to 636Mb, a significant reduction.

I then decided to try the output without the extras.

There were 2 slideshows, created using the batch collect option.
Slideshow 1 contained 940 pics and slideshow 2 contained 40

None of the images were larger than 150kb.

The build of slideshow 1 took around 5 minutes, which seemed acceptable but when it started to build the second slideshow with significantly less content, suddenly we were back to a very slow output speed. After 10 minutes, it was only at 4% and I cancelled as this was totally unacceptable.

So first impressions are that this is a very poor product indeed.

Considering the excellent reviews, including the much respected Computer Video Editing Mag and it's given the Taiwan Symbol of Excellence 2005 Award, you do have to question what sort of testing and review procedures are in place.

If it was a couple of bugs that could not be replicated because of the diversity of hardware/software combinations out there, then I could expect to wait for the appropriate patches etc but this product appears to be a dud straight out of the box.

I hope to be proved wrong and will happily eat humbe pie if I am but from the perspective of being one of my companies software testers, the floors in this program do not make me believe I will have to.

I have of course sent the details to tech support and await their response with anticipation
