What devices?

How are you capturing to your computer? List all the devices, and cables you are using.

What are your computer specs (processor type/speed, number of hard drives, amount of memory, operating system, etc...)

Black and white capture can be a TV system mismatch. If you are capturing in NTSC for instance, but feeding in a PAL signal. Check your settings in File/Preferences.

Thankyou i have managed to sort out the colour problem, it was in the wrong format as you said. Can i make a DVD out of the VCD that i seem to be capturing.

Yes if you have a full version of UVS you can create DVDs, SVCDs, VCDs, Video files, Windows media files, etc. but if you are capturing from a VCD you have a relatively low quality image to start with so you may not get the top quality DVD you are no doubt looking for.

Does your capture device, whatever it is, only allow your to capture in VCD format? This is, as Brian said, only a relatively low quality format. It would be much better if your could capture in MPEG 2 format, which can produce much better quality DVDs.

In your original post you stated that you were capturing from VHS (videotape?). This can certainly be burned to DVD. As Ken said, try to capture to mpeg2 (or avi) format; this will give you much better quality.

Thankyou very much for all your advice, things are looking up now. I can indeed capture to mpg but only mpeg 1, not mpeg 2, so i will try that next time. Using Nero software i have managed to make some kind of disk, although im not sure if it is in DVD format as it got to late to try it. Could i have done that using the Video Suit software, and how can i tell if it is DVD or something else that im making.

Yes you certainly can burn DVDs (and VCDs) in Ulead VideoStudio 7 [&8] when you go to "Share" and click on "Create Disc" you will find a drop down at the top of the new window which will allow you to choose "DVD" , "SVCD", "VCD" as you wish.
