HELP! I need help on copying files, I fly out 2morrow!!!!
I have been working on this project for two months and I fly out tomorrow to show everyone what I have been working on. I was making a video, with slideshows and videos on MovieFactory 4 when I was finished I noticed that I didn't have a dvd burner on my laptop but on my desktop computer at home I do. Well the dvd is too long to copy it on a cd-r then to just copy it from one disc to another so I can't do that. I want to just copy the files to the other computer, when I did that is made it into a dvd form and I couldn't go back in and edit or put them all together in moviefactory. How do I just copy the files (not in dvd format) (even if I have to do it one by one) to the other computer so I can still work on them and put them in the order I want? WITHOUT LOSING ANY OF THE PICTURES OR SOUNDS????? When I do try and copy the files it says that there is no link to the pictures or sound, how do I just copy everything? Please help I have tried everything! Thanks!
What you need to do is to open up your project and select each picture/clip and right click on it and select properties and look at where every file is located. If you can't read the full path on the file name, select the text and press the home key, that will bring you to the start of the text, you should then write down the locations. That information should be used to copy files from your laptop to another computer. Don't forget to copy your project file to the other computer.
The easiest way to get your project burned is to find a external DVD burner that works with your laptop.

I agree. With only one day, the most sure-fire solution is to get an external USB burner.
An external hard drive would work too.
Or, you can get an ethernet "crossover cable" and network the computers together. A crossover cable allows two computers to connect together without a hub. But, if your computers are not already configured for networking this could take too much time to figure-out and set-up.

Hi,
As stated above I'd purchase a brand name external firewire/usb burner.
If you know where the pictures and the sound files are at then using either the programs "PKZIP" or Win_Rar" that contain an option to also save the directory information.
This directory information will be recreated during a restore.
This is helpful when cloning files and directories.
To make Projects Portable one can do the following:
Create a Data Directory on your drive with the following structure and store all your files there.
MULTIMEDIA___
.......................|
.......................|
.......................|____AUDIO__
.......................|
.......................|____VIDEO
.......................|
.......................|____PICTURES
.......................|
.......................|____VIDEOSTUDIO
.......................|
.......................|____MOVIEFACTORY (Always set this as your working folder)
.......................|
.......................|____PROGRAM UPDATES__
.......................|
.......................|____DATA AND MISCELLANEOUS
This makes data recover easy, cloning projects and backups simple.
NOTE: If your working with different drive letters then you still copy the cloned directory to the other machine.
Then using the windows "SUBST" command you can re-assign any directory to a Free drive letter.
If the drive you need is the other machines CD/DVD writer then use windows drive manager to re-assign a higher drive letter to the CD/DVD drives.
A working example of the "Subst" command:
Lets say I have a directory on the C: called Video (C:\Video)
To clone this (map/point) to the H_Drive and create a new H: that will display under "My Computer"
1- Open up a command window ____> START -> RUN -> (Type in) cmd
2- Within the command window type the following (Upper or lower case, doesn't matter)
SUBST H: C:\Video
You now have a new H:
To delete this new H: type
SUSBT H: /D
Want to clone your C_Drive (Operatins System)?
SUBST T: C:\ (Now the T_Drive is a mirror of the C_Drive)
Type in EXIT to close the command window.
This way if the project is on another drive letter on the machine you are cloning it's possible to remap to the same drive letter and clone the original project
and complete the project.
Hope this helps,
MD
