Hi, i write from Italy and i've Video Studio 8 and i've quality problems encoding video (DV Avi)and photos (Jpeg) together.
My encoding settings:
PAL 720x576 4:3 100% quality bar and CBR 8000, Audio PCM or MP3 depending on space available on DVD.
Problem 1: low quality of the photos if i set "First Field" (Primo campo inferiore in Italian version) in the encoding settings (but fine quality of the video).
Problem 2: low quality of the video if i set "depending on frame" (basato sul fotogramma in Italian version) in the encoding settings (but fine quality of the photo.
I've applied a solution but isn't very optimized and the quality is not the best i want.
I think that the difference between photo and video is the interlaced fields for the video and the not interlaced for the foto.
Encoding video and photo together the software try to denterlace the photo also with very loss of quality.
Then, i've deinterlaced the video first with virtual dub and i've set up the "depending on frame" in the encoding settings in video studio 8.
With this procedure, the general quality of the video is better than previous settings (but not like "first filed" setting) and the photos are at best quality.
There is another setting/procedure to use to avoid this problems of quality?
Thanks to all.

Thanks for your support heinz-oz.heinz-oz wrote:I convert all my images to bmp after I cropped to 4:3 aspect ratio and reduced the image size to 1200 x 900 pixels. They are as clear as anything.
Uhm... i've tried with your suggestion but the result is the same.
The quality of DVD generated with photos have same quality if i use jpeg or bmp (with first field setting the quality is lossless, with depending on frame setting the quality is the same as the original photo in each file format).
Question1: if i convert a jpeg in a bmp format i don't improve quality, then why the video in you suggestione have to be better? Compression algorithm?
Question2: why with the first field setting encoding a DV Avi in a DVD format the quality is better than the depending on frame setting?
Other suggestions?
Bye, and thanks again.
