If i want a picture slowly appearing within my video i would have to put it in the overlay right?
if so how can i get it to slowly appear and disappear but covering the whole movie for that instance? in other words i don't want the picture appearing on top of the video so i want it to be just a single frame on its own... does this make any sense?

Hi,
Yes you can place your image on the overlay. Then Choose the Fade-in / Fade-out on the Attributes Panel. Then further to control the fade in/out time, the blue bar below the preview window now shows the Pause/Duration. Using the "trim" handles (now are Pause/duration handles), you can adjust the fade in/out of the image. The Blue bar length indicates how long the image is visable in a static state (not fading). The spaces to the left/right are the fading times. So to have a short fade in/out, slide the handles to the left/right, so they are close to the edges. The image will fade in fast, be on screen for awhile, then fade out fast.
Hope that helps..
