Windows Has Encountered an Error...MF 3 SE

Post by VJ1138 »

I've managed to overcome all of the issues MovieFactory 3 SE has thrown at me with relative ease, but all of a sudden today it won't let me burn. It goes until it reaches the 5th fil to convert and then says Windows has encountered an error and needs to close.

I tried restarting. Heck, I even re-installed the program. I looked online, and no one seems to have an answer. Well, Google gives a summary under a search result that fits my question perfectly, but leads me to a totally unrelated thread in these forums that doesn't even mention MovieFactory.

So I'm stuck. Is there an error on the fifth file? Is the software screwing up? Or is something missing from Windows all of a sudden that it needs to burn? I've never had this problem with this program before, and now it won't go away.

I did make one settings change, however. I attempted to change the MPEG format to Long Play so I could fit 180 minutes onto a DVD. It then said that there was some error, that it didn't match up with something, but it did in fact change the settings anyways as far as I could tell. Would this have something to do with it?

I'm at a total loss. Thanks in advance.

Surely someone has an answer? This is the only place that I've gotten any answers regarding this product, and in fact, I can hardly find any mention of the SE version of this product on the Internet at all. Nothing I've done has fixed the problem and I'm at a total loss. There is no reason for these errors to suddenly pop up and it's frustrating beyond description. I have other burning programs, but no other editing software except Windows Movie Maker which freezes and crashes every time I try putting an MPEG2 file in. I guess those arent' compatible? But I can't conver them, either. I've tried MPEG2 compatible programs, and even they won't load the file, saying it's incompatible.

Same problem here.there is a up date but my system even crashed with the new update i think its dated 07/2005...i also install movie factory 4 and it crashed to..so what ever the problem is i dont think they have a fix for it.just look at some of the old postS here they had the same problem almost 2 years ago.dont you think they would have a fix by NOW..no.

Well, I installed that update, and now I can't even work the program. I double click the icon, it brings me to the intro screen where you select what kind of project you want to do. I click create a dvd, it brings up a little progress bar, then brings me back to the intro selection screen. This is maddenning! There's no reason it should have stopped working in the first place!

I've been doing some more back research, and I understand how people here really need to tknow system specifics to help out, but in this case, I know everything is fine because it worked. Nothing was changed on my computer. Just one day, it decided to stop working. My program (MovieFactory 3 SE) came with ADS DVD Xpress.

I capture video with the device that it came with (CapWiz), and I've burned around 10 DVDs successfully. Now, I keep getting the following errors:

Either the project reaches some stage during the burning and it brings up an error box saying that Windows has to close the program because it encountered the following errors:

"The intstruction at 0x033A442F tried to access memory at 0x14BDB000 but the read failed."

and

"The instruction at 0x00000000 tried to access memory at 0x00000000 but the read failed."

But now I can't even get that far. Now as soon as it finishes the converting stage and VOB stage, it brings up a small box that says that dreaded 5003 source file error. I click okay, it brings up another box saying it can't open the file. Click okay, it repeats the 5003 source file error. Click okay, it repeats the box saying it can't open the file.

What the hell is going on? Did I provide enough information? Because nothing has been installed or changed on the computer that would screw with this and it has no reason to suddenly stop working the same day I had successfully burned a DVD.

VJ1138,

Just a quick note, how much free space do you have on your working drive?

ULEAD does not clean up after generation and may have fill-up your drive since you were able to create about 10 DVDs; it could be the source of your problem

Check your preferences in MovieFactory for your working folders location and clean them up!

I wish that were my problem. The working folder says it has about 20 GB free space.

I just attempted to capture a new video to see if the ones already on my computer were indeed actually corrupted in some way. The video was just a quick 20 second clip, and immediately after capturing (in Mpeg 2 DVD format) and burning to DVD, it fails somewhere around the end of the VOB finalization (I think) and goes through the whole 5003 error source file/cannot open file routine yet again.

I honestly can't figure out what to do. I've tried everything. This wouldn't be such a problem if I didn't have to edit the files, because I have other means of burning to DVD. But the only other program I have capable of editing is Windows Movie Maker, which won't work with MPEG2.

Can you create DVD folders or disk image?

If you can try to burn the results with another burning program e.g. Nero.

I reformatted my hard drive and started everything from scratch, and STILL Ulead crashes on the 5th file conversion. If I don't have 5 files being burned, there is a source file error (5003).

Doesn't Nero cost money? Since I spent 80 Bucks on the ADS Tech box, I really don't want to dish out additional cash. I have another DVD burning program, but I can't edit the files. I really need to ability to edit the files, but everything apparently costs money. I have Windows Media Encoder, but I really don't see a point in spending 3-4 hours on each file encoding, then editing, then re-encoding, all the while losing quality.
