Having used VS3-8 I have just encountered a problem which I had never needed to consider before. I recently created a large number of new DVD's and gave them to a family member to take back to the UK (I am in Australia). On arrival they found they cannot play the DVD's on the new DVD player they purchased for this project.

The supplier of the DVD player in the UK apparently spoke with several other suppliers and eventually provided a Phillips DVD player with a 'modification', I am assuming this is the modification that is required to align the UK and AU TV playback frequencies.

I thought the DVD standard was just that, a standard that ignoring region controls on commercial products could be used anywhere. I recorded the DVD's in PAL format expecting this to be compatible.

Does this mean that to succesfully record a DVD (ignoring the media -R vs +R etc) that the country selector must be used for each different disk if you are to distribute internationally?

To my knowledge (others can correct me if I am wrong...)
DVDs created by VS8 have no region code. Theoretically they should play on any DVD player.
Also I think the UK and Aus standards are identical. (PAL is just PAL).
The +R and -R issue may be more important. They are different but complementary standards; whichever you choose you should have about 90% success in any standalone player. I had a similar issue; a Philips DVD player in my home would not recognise -R discs, so I use +R.
