Upgrade fails to find installation

I have MF4 installed and working on my computer. I downloaded the latest Patch/upgrade file, but when I try to run it I says it cannot find MF4 installed on my computer. I tried opening it from within the MF4 folder, but that did not work. If I start MF4 first, it then complains that MF4 is open; I should close and try again.

Anyone have a suggestion?

Hi Bill, welcome to the forums...

Do you have the Boxed version or the ESD (downloaded) version? The box will be better in this instance.

What may allow MF4 update/patch to see your install is to reinstall or repair your install. If I recall correctly, after installing MF4 it asks to reboot. Ulead's recomendation was to Not reboot at this time, but to install the update patch, then reboot...

I'm having the same problem. I have the bundled version that came with my new pioneer dvd drive. I've uninstalled it and reinstall and tried the idea of putting in the patch before re-boot but that doesn't work either.

I am using MF 4.0 that came bundled with my ASUS drive and I am experiencing the same problem with the update patch.

The latest updates for Movie Factory 4 will not work with bundled versions, which are Special Editions of the software.

The SE versions are crippled and don't give you all the options as the retail versions.

That is the reason that the updater can't find your app.

Were the other Ulead apps freebies as well I think you got what you paid for. The SE version didn't cost you any money, but yet you complain that it doesn't perform like the complete/full versions.

If someone gave you just 1 piece of your most favorite candy, for free then said now for the whole box you must pay something. If the candy was to your liking, then you most likely would buy it... Well the single piece of candy is the SE versions. Try it, taste it, if you like it then you might buy it.

Looksie I've got the same problem. With the added fact that the program can't handle dvd-ram's too well...the sound is missing from any export....anwyay.

Support: nonexistent.

Patch: does not work - seems because of the aforementioned reason.

But let me tell you, if they think giving me a 'freebee' piece of useless crap will make me buy ulead products, they are in for a surprise...

Candy tastes good. Sthite does not. So thank you I won't pay : it goes into the bin.

If you feel good in this word, where they tell you "here's this shiny candy, buy the box it's even better", and you'll buy because they tell you - even tho the little piece of shiny candy is made of dry brown stuff...well, then I feel sorry for you mate. It's your word, the marketing word, just pay, pay, pay, and pay. It'll be all good. Not for you, but you don't care anyway.

Nah Ron, unfortunately I paid for MovieFactory 2 and one of the videosuites but it didnt perform and met a nasty end. this one doesnt phaze me because i got it free with a digital tv tuner. although i wonder if a small amount of my money was in fact wasted on having useless apps bundled with it. heheh

And the problem I am having with the SE version is that while encoding a video for dvd it crashes, have tried numerous files and it does the same with them while others work ok. So it is a problem with the way it tries to decode the compression format and buying a piece of software (bag of candy) when the trial piece turned out to be a rotten egg it doesnt justify spending the money to get the full thing!

If it had worked, or had support to fix the problem (which i am 99% sure one of the patches would do) i would gladly buy it. The only way i would know for sure is to try a full version and without paying for the "honor" of a trial i would be forced to criminal methods which i abhor.

I am having the same problem and others. P4 +1g +100gb space and the program just locks up. The software mf 4 SE came with a Hauppauge USB win tv tuner but just because it is a package deal does not mean it should not work as it states it will on the cover.

I have tried to uninstall it and went in manually to clean it up as per one thread. The reinstall did not help. I can’t get it to update with the update pack2. It does not state that it will not work with the SE version as build # 4.02 does unless the message is misplaced and applies to both. As was stated above I DEFINETLY would not pay for a full version of the software if the taste this piece of "candy" left in my mouth is this bad. It is a shame that Hauppauge choose this software to bundle with it's device as now I will probably return all as it does not meet my needs by being able to burn my wedding videos and other things to DVD. Technical Support is a no reply.

With rebates and warranties so time oriented you would think things would be better.

I took a lot of bashing over time, trying to help someone that didn't come for help. Best to learn to ignore them.

I have MF 4 and not a single issue with it, then again, it's the full version.

I just upgraded to MSP 8 after using all of the previous versions since 6. Version 8 includes Move Factory 4 ( or maybe just parts of it) to allow creation of DVD's. The patches for movie factory 4 will not, however, install.

So do I need to purchase a full version of movie factory 4 to get the patches or are the necessary DVD burning patches included with the MSP 8 patches?
