I am trying to capture VHS tapes. I am connected with RCA jacks from the video output on my vcr to video input adapter on my ATI all in wonder 9600XT. I am set to caputure to AVI format. My video input source is "video composite" and my audio source is "what you hear". I also have no audio when played back in edit mode. I am not sure if this is a connection thing or a software thing. Thanks for any help.

Hi Brlott, welcome to the boards..
1. Have you tried playing the captured clip in another application, like Windows Media Player? If so is the sound present there?
2. Is your audio settings for your system (click on the speaker in the taskbar) set to Playback or Recording?
I haven't used an AIW card in a couple of years so I'm not sure if there may be some settings within the card's software you may need to change to capture audio. I think in my old AIW card I had to run a "Line In" to my Soundcard to capture the audio.
Regards
Ron P.

Thank you for the welcome videoman,
I tried playing the captured video in Windows media player like you suggested and still no sound. I also looked at the volume setting and checked record instead of playback and still no sound.
Now, when you mention run a "line in" to my sound card, are talking about a setting that I need to change (cause I can't find one) or acutually running a seperate cable to the sound card for the sound?
Thanks for your help.
Brett

With an ATI AIW card you get two special cables that connect to the AIW card, one is input the other is output. You have to connect the output audio connector to your computer's sound card input. You also must connect the input to your composite/s-video video and the red/white audio cables from your VCR
You then have to setup the software for your AIW to use the line input of your sound card.
After that you have to enable recording in your sound card. Do this by using the Control Panel, Sound and Audio Devices, sound recording, volume, make sure the line in is checked (Selected).
You might have to check this every time you record video from your AIW card.
