Smartsound problem

Post by irhyper2 »

I down loaded the trial version of VS9 and all worked well, including SmartSound. I purchased the full version (boxed) and now smartsound will not work. When I click on Auto Music, I get a message that says the smartsound data base could not be opened properly, Quicktracks is closing, or something to that affect. I have Pinnacle 8.2, and smart sound works like a charm. I am using XP operating. Any suggestions?

Firstly try running the Smartsound installer again from Disk 1
Disk 1\Program\UVS9\SmartSound\Quicktracks.exe
If that does not work then go to the following site and download the update to smartsound
http://www.smartsound.com/support/Quick ... er3027.exe
Let me know if you're still having problems.

I tried reloading it from the disk. When I follow your instructions, and get to Program\UVS9\SmartSound, I cannot get "quicktracks" to open. There is an Icon for "Full Spectrum", and that opens and installs the smartsound library (?which I cannot find on the system. I also tried downloading the patch you refer to, but it doesn't help. I do not know if this makes a difference, but the quicktracts file on disk1is like 9.41MB ahd the download is 9.67.

I sm using XP media 002

update to problem

Post by irhyper2 »

I went to smartsound .com and did some research. I have the SS folder in the location on my hard drive where SS says they should be. The size appears to match what the update should be.There is also a SS folder in Program Files, and one under the Pinnacle program. This is the one Pinnacle uses, and the folder is a different size, with the Pinnacle being smaller. Does the fact that I have more than one SS folder make a difference?

You can have more than one smartsound folder.
Perhaps you need to rebuild the Smartsound database.

Open any product that uses Smartsound so if you cannot do this with Video Studio you can do it via Pinnacle. Go to wherever the Smartsound is located in that product (In Video Studio it is called Auto Music)
You should see the Smartsound logo and the wording Smartsound quicktracks next to that logo.

Click the logo and this will bring up a dialog box.
Click the Migration Tab.
Click "Search Hard Drives"

This will rebuild the Smartsound libraries and will look for Smartsound files wherever they may be located on your computer.

Let me know if this solves the problem.

I tried what you suggest, and cannot find SS or Auto muisic in VS. SS is in pinnacle but no migration tab. I thought I would uninstall SS through contol panel. SmartSound Quicktracks is there, but it shows zero size. When I try to uninstall, I get an error message 1326 -Netwrk error occured while trying to read from file C/windows/installer/Smartsound quicktracks plugin.msi. When I hit ok, I get another error message 1603 Fatal error during installation. Consult window installer help msi.chm. All this means nothing to me buy might you.

From Pinnacle Studio Plus version 9.3.2 (I presume yours will be similar)
Toolbox
Generate Smartsound Music
Bottom right of the dialog box is an oblong button Smartsound@
click that.
click the Migration Tab and then "Search hard Drives"

The same procedure from Video Studio 9 is:
Click the Audio Tab
Now Top left of Screen click the Auto Music Tab
Just above the timeline on the left and below the list of music is a
smartsound Logo and the words Smartsound Quicktracks
click the logo to bring up a dialog box.
click the Migration tab and then "Search Hard Drives."

Did you recently install Quicktime 7? It seems to cause problems with smartsound. The update from their website is supposed to fix it but I never got it to work again.
Now using Adobe Premiere and Photoshop

Steve, Thanks for sticking with me on this. When I go to VS9 and go to Audio and click on the Smart music tab, there is no list of music. It is blank where the list of songs should be, and all of the "Options" such as "add to Timeline", "Smartsound Quicktracks", "auto trim" etc. are grayed out. The SmartSound files are located on my computer where SmartSounds WEB site says they should be. I can open each track in Media player and play them. Any other suggestions? I emailed Uleads tech help yesterday but have not heard from them. I have not loaded quicktime 7 as the other post asked.

I have Pinnacle 8.12 and when I go to the SmartSound button, I do not get a Migration tab. When I click on the SS button, a window with three tabs pops up, About, More Music, and License. Needless to say, this is extremely frustrating.

Hi

Did you remove the trial version before installing the VS 9 program?

Have you done a clean install?
See this post:-

http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/EN/viewtopic. ... =uninstall

Also uninstall Smart Sound Quick Tracks Plugin.
Then delete all Smart Sound folders and Quicktrack folders.

When you install VS it should install all 26 Smart Sound files, It should not skip any.

Trevor

Ps:-
I have just re-installed VS 9 on XP, had problems with Smart Sound and Quicktime 7 compatibility. Had to do a clean install of VS 9.
I also uninstalled Quicktime 7. then re-installed VS 9 which includes QT 6.
Seems ok now.

Trevor,

I tried that, and same results. No music shows under "Auto Music", and all options are grayed out. This is absurd. No response from Ulead at all. This is an update that I am installing, from the box, not download. Would it being an update have anything to do with it?. The very first time I installed it, and opened VS(, I could listen to the SmartSound songs, and all options worked, then it just quit.

Hi

As far as I know you are not installing an update, if you have the boxed or download version then you should have a working version.

Unlike some products, Ulead does not upgrade from the ‘trial’ but provides you with a working version. The Trial should be uninstalled before installing your disc version.

The location of your smartsound libraries etc are located here:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SmartSound Software Inc
and also here:
C:\Program Files\SmartSound Software

In addition there are entries in the Windows Registry here:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SmartSound Software]
and also here:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SmartSound Software]

Try renaming each of the above
A simple x at the end of the entry will do example
C:\Program Files\SmartSound Software
becomes
C:\Program Files\SmartSound Softwarex
(This makes it all reversible - you can always revert the entries back again.)

Now place Video Studio 9 Disk 1 into your DVD drive and run the following
D:\Program\UVS9\SmartSound\Quicktracks.exe

Replace D: with your DVD drive letter.

Does this fix it?
