Is MSP 8 capable of doing multi-camera editing? If yes, how?

I answered a similar question here:

Although that topic is in the Video Studio forum the procedure is the same when using Media Studio.

Aha I see what you want, this is called Picture in Picture.
The correct Ulead software to achieve this is Media Studio Pro.

The main difference between Video Studio (Little Brother)
and Media Studio (Big Brother) are the number of available video/audio tracks.

Video Studio
has 2 tracks to work with, one named the video track and the other the overlay track. To achieve what is shown in that example you would have to add each seperate window one at a time, render then add another and render again etc. Obvioulsy very time consuming and not very efficient

Media Studio has up to 99 video and audio tracks and so you would create that multiscreen effect all in one go. To make things even more easier Media Studio includes something named Smart Compositer. These are either ready made multi screen effects or you can also make your own.

Take a look at the screen shots (for something I created) on the German version of this forum
http://www.ulead-fanboard.de/thread.php?threadid=2060&

Some of our members have also created and shared Smart Compositions of their own.
Here is my contribution

Avid offers the industry's most powerful real-time multicam editing with the industry's only mixed resolution clip groups —HD, uncompressed SD, DV and film, each in their native format, with no transcoding required.
This is not true. MSPro8 offers similar features with the additional advantage that the HD can be proxied to a lower resolution if there isn't enough horse power in the computer to run it in real time. For Avid to preview such a sequence in real time would just about require a supercomputer.

Hi Steve, Devil, et al..

I know this is kinda off topic, but I had to stick my two cents worth in. I work for a major market tv station that has an entire floor fulla avid suites with all the toys.. adrenaline.. shared servers...lanshare..and play to air. Every day every one of us has to reboot at least once.. more often two or three times in an 8 hour shift. This plus the same craziness we all put up with in every other off the shelf editing package out there. Freezes, crashes.. and lags. Now, bear in mind we are editing news.. not a lotta layers.. not a lotta effects and just a few transitions in our minute to a minute and a half packages. Phooey to that.. if thats what I had to put up with on the side.. I would be in a different line of work. Instead of the dual processor, 2 gig waaaaaay to exspensive at work machines.. My suites (mainly p4 3.0, 1 gig, clones), crank out multi layer videos with lotsa effects and many layers etc etc. Some of these programs we do are well over an hour... and edited as one timeline. It scares the hell outta me to think about even going over three minutes on the almighty avid.
Save your lottery winnings and buy more cameras and other neat field and studio gear.. then edit using MSPro. In the long run you WILL be better off.
Just my humble opinion.. from one who is doomed in hell to using avid eight hours a day.
