Accessing preferences causes VideoStudio to crash

Post by Cloggy »

Whenever I try to access File->Preferences VideoStudio 9SE crashes with the following error :-

The instruction at "0x73dd11c7" referenced memory at "0x00000004". The memory could not be "read".

I have XP SP2 and have tried reinstalling but the problem still occurs. I found information relating to DEP and have also tried disabling this but nothing works.

The problems occurs whether I have a project loaded or not, and from whatever part of videostudio I am at the time (capture, edit, etc.)

I am contemplating upgrading to the full version but don't want to do it if I'm still going to get the problem.

Everything else works fine, but I am unable to change the default directory which is a bit of a pain.

Any help/advice is much appreciated.

Cheers,

Jason

This is very unusual for Video Studio 9.

My guess is you got an undetected error during download. Try uninstalling and manually delete every folder or file with Ulead in the name then download again - or upgrade to the boxed version, which is a lot handier to deal with.

Can not access Video Studio 9 Preferences

I have the exact same problem.
I Have only been using the program for about three weeks since getting it bundled with "Winfast DTV 1000T" Digital Television tuner.

I have gone as far as making a ghost image of my PC then starting with a fresh install of Windows XP SP2... all I have installed is C-Media Sound driver and Winfast drivers and still have the same problem with VS9 crashing when I select Preferences...
It is very Odd.

My version of Vs9 came with the WinFast DTV 1000 as well. Must be a problem with the bundled version. Not sure that there are any updates for this, It may be a case of having to upgrade to the full version.

Same problem on 3 different machines

I am having the same problem with VS9 SE DVD bundled with the DTV1000. Maybe there was a glitch in the specific version distributed with this product? I have logged jobs with ulead tech support, but they simply suggested a re-install.

Maybe it is worthwhile logging jobs with LeadTek as well?

Three different computers, all XP SP2 with latest updates have crashed when preferences is selected.

I don't think it is realistic to say that it is acceptable for LeadTek to ship software with their product that doesn't work. One of the main reasons for purchasing the DTV1000 was the bundled software, as I had previously used VS8 and found it very good, if slightly tempremantal when burning projects. I will let you know how the request to LeadTek goes.

I emailed a query concerning this issue to Ulead... unfortunately the answer I recieved from them concerning this problem differed very little from the steps I had taken (Which I explained to them) already to try to rectify the sitauation.

When comparing cards... my final decission in purchase lay soley with the fact that VS9 came bundled with the Winfast DTV 1000T.
I am dissapointed.

I however did tweak the registry to change settings manualy.
I hope doing this will only be tempoary solution and a fix is available soon.

Is that four different machines?

I thought it was just me doing something wrong. Start VS9, File -> Preferences and the thing stops - dead.

XP2, VS9 SE bundled with (you guessed it) Leadtek DVT2000H.

I might try to follow it up through my supplier and his distributor, because it ain't fit for purpose. Leadtek might listen to reasoned approach from a distributor.

BTW someone should prob start a new thread outlining general experiences with using VS9 with the Leadtek gear.

Sorry Chippy, I had to laugh at the registry editing. The thing will go out the window before I edit the registry for it.

If it is not too difficult, I will log a problem with Leadtek as well.

Has anybody had this problem with VS9SE which didn't come with a leadtek product?

Has anybody had this problem with VS9SE running another type of TV card?

Have you people that bought a Leadtek TV card with VS9SE bundled with it, tried running VS9SE without the TV card installed and if so do you still have the problem?

Regards,

Thespian.
