There is a stupidity in the installation sequence of MSP8, at least with WinXPSP2.
It does not check whether QuickTime is already installed on the computer. If it is - and it's the same version - it may appear to install but some components of MSP may be missing. This can cause a number of problems, notably with MPEG-2 as well as MOV, and this may affect some other applications. Worse, if the already-installed QT is of a later version, the installation stalls and nothing can get it working again. However, it appears that MSP8 has been installed correctly and it seems to work, but a number of functions are missing. Error messages can appear when you least expect them. It is also impossible to uninstall the faulty MSP8. This forces a re-install to a different directory.
Recommendation: Always uninstall QuickTime before installing MSP8
If you have had mysterious crashes, errors or other problems with MSP8, it may be worthwhile uninstalling both MSP8 and QT and then re-installing MSP8.
