Video Studio DIES if I click on TRANSPARENCY dialog setting
I am using a NEW installation of Video Studio 9. it all seems to work fine
EXCEPT if I choose to add TITLE, and then add some text, AND THEN
try to select the BORDER/SHADOW/TRANSPARENCY dialog box icon
THE WHOLE PROGRAM DIES, the window closes and is kaaput!
Wonder what if anything I am doing wrong.
Thanks

Hi eatc7402, welcome to the boards..
Since it appears your Nvidia card is ok, lets look at some other possiblities. To help with that, and seeing that you are a webmaster, complete your system information in your profile. This helps in troubleshooting problems. Also Read This First Sticky. It provides an outline of needed information.
1. Does this happen with any font/type face you try? Have you tried changing the font to see if VS still goes
)
2. Have you applied any or all relevant patches to VS9?
a. If not maybe d/l and installing them could eliminate the problem.
b. If so the patch may have messed something up.
3. Have you been able to use VS9 without problems before, either Full or Trial versions?
a. If you have then we need to examine what has changed on your system to cause VS9 to misbehave.
4. Do you have the ESD or Boxed version?
a. If you have the Boxed version, you can place the CD in the tray and do a Repair from the Control Panel-->Add/Remove Programs.
b. ESD, well unfortunately you can only do a full uninstall/reinstall.

Update info related to problem.
I have updated my user profile with the requested system info.
1. It does not appear that the font selected makes any difference. If you select TITLE, then double click the preview window, THEN simply click the Transparency selector... the
program DIES.
2. I have not applied ANY updates. I looked at the list, but none of them SEEMED to apply.
3. This is my FIRST attempt to use VideoStudio.
4. I am using the downloadable 30 day trial version.
The XP system then generates an error message that wants to send a report of the error to Microsoft. The error data IS available, I think, if you desire it.
Just to note, I like the product, and this seems to be the only
major glitch I have run into with it.

Dave,
Ok well with the trial version you can't apply any updates. So that's out.
Since you are trying out VS9 a couple of things to keep in mind.
1. Shut down all possible apps running in the background, antivirus, spyware, scheduling apps etc.. I have a program called End it all that helps close them down. However now I just use Task manager as I know what I can and can't close.
2. Follow the Recomended Procedures listed in the sticky on this forum. It saves on headaches. The guys that put it together are not hobbiests, they're pros and know the ins and outs of video editing on pc's.
Now unless Ken jumps in here with another and probably better recomendation you might have to reinstall. How long do you have left on your trial? Also before you do, do you still have the TBYB installation file? Because to prevent against piracy, if you try to download again it may not work at all..
To do a good clean uninstall/reinstall:

To do a good clean uninstall/reinstall:
Yes VS is well worth the money.1) Clean up C:\Windows\temp directory. Clean up all files in C:\Documents and
Settings\[UserName]\Local Settings\Temp folder. Uninstall VideoStudio 9 from
control panel Add/Remove programs.
Delete following folders
=>C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Ulead
VideoStudio
=>C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\SmartSound Software Inc
=>C:\Documents and Settings\[Username]\My Documents\Ulead VideoStudio
=>C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems\
Proceed to step 2, even if you can't complete step 1.
2) Delete folder {88F92798-59AB-474F-B40D-1EC5F782F7EE} in
C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information (Please set "Show hidden
files and folders." in folder option in OS)
3) Please del the folder " Ulead VideoStudio 9.0" folder in C:\program
files\ulead system
4) Run Regedit from Start/Run in Windows task bar
5) Delete folder {88F92798-59AB-474F-B40D-1EC5F782F7EE} in
KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\
(If you always see Ulead VideoStudio 9 file name showed in the Add/Remove
Program, please do point 5)
6) Then reinstall UVS 9 again

V77.77 is actually quite old -- the latest official ForceWare driver is V81.98, and dated February 7, 2006:
http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp
There are even more recent drivers (I'm using V83.60), but the V81.98 drivers is WHQL-certified and the one I would try. You can always go back to V77.77 if it doesn't resolve the crash.
