One thing seems to be constantly overlooked here, AVI is not a file format, it's just a container for all sorts of file formats.
The AVI I referred to was DV-AVI, digital video contained in an AVI wrapper. It is the common format for MiniDV camcorder to PC capture. It takes about 13 GB/hour. The compression is usually around 11% but pretty much loss less.
The file sizes indicated by zimmebr seem to be uncompressed AVI.
I had my daubts that the BELKIN could in fact capture to DV-AVI. zimmebr may be stuck with capturing to mpeg2.
