automatically shuffle along items on overlay, title etc

Post by SPLATTYMATTY »

I am happily creating my movie, but occasionally want to add in new clips. However, by this point, i have already added in overlay tracks, title tracks etc. When i add the new clip, all the stuff on the additional tracks is now out of sequence. Is there a way to add in new clips that anything added on the additional tracks automatically shuffles along to its correct position? or do i then have to go in manually and move everything along to its correct place?

It depends on which version of VS you are using. With version 7 and earlier, you have to do it all manually. With version 8, you can SHIFT + Select all the subsidiary tracks (titles and audio) following the point at which you are inserting the new video and move them together to a new point. (My memory is playing up this morning. It could be Ctrl + Select, but someone will correct me if I am wrong...) But in VS9, you can enable what is called 'ripple editing' which will do this automatically. The control is found to the immediate top left of the storyboard/timeline and looks like a small rectangular black box linked to three similar blocks to its right which are one above the other. You first click on that button to enable ripple editing. Then below that button, and the left of each track, there are small grayed-out buttons, and you click on each of the ones you want to move at the same time. Insert your new video and those tracks should all move to the right of the new clip...

Hi
Correct Ken----------Shift + click (select) seems to work.

Using VS 7 you can select multiple clips but only in the same timeline.
VS 8 allowed you to select all clips/tracks.
VS 9 as you say has the ripple effect
