here we go again. The installer says it can't find Pi11 on this machine. Well I will bet my bottom dollar that pi11 is in FACT on my machine!!

Don't do it!!

Post by forficula »

Having just run the update, I would advise anyone considering it - DON'T!!!!

I had to completely uninstall Pi11 and then re-install it before it would work again. As I am a glutton for punishment I did it twice as I thought it must be me or my machine. It wasn't!

What form of install did you guys use (ESD, TBYB) ?

I upgraded from PI 10 with the boxed upgrade version of PI 11 and didn't have any problems installing the update.

I experienced no problems upgrading from 10 to 11, both downloads. The problem is with the recently released update, which just wrecks the installed application and it has to be re-installed.

The md5 of the downloaded pi11 update file is:

05c24fa91b97d119c038cddaee98ba93

Of course, there is nothing to compare it with, though I did download it twice, just to be sure.

You may try Filemon tool from this page:
http://www.sysinternals.com/FileAndDiskUtilities.html
to check for files the patch tries to locate.
On this page:
http://www.sysinternals.com/SystemInfor ... ities.html
there is Regmon utility, to track registry accesses (in case the patch tries to locate PI via a registry key).

Same recommendation here. I ran the updater and now my previously working PI11 won't start. It brings up a dialog box that says 'the security information is invalid or has been modified'. (I have a registered and paid for version of PI11. Also had three previous versions, all registered and paid for.)

As a MediaStudio Pro user who was bitten by the latest MSP Hotfix debacle (had to redownload a different version of the original software before I could install the Hotfix), I really should have learned a lesson about applying these patches when they are released.

Next time...
Video editing PC:
C2D E6600 CPU on Asus motherboard
2GB dual channel DDR2 RAM
7600GT PCIe video card
320GB RAID 1 SATA system drive
400GB RAID 1 SATA documents drive
400GB video drive
Samsung and Pioneer DVD burners
Vista Home Premium 32 bit

I should have said that I got the same message and also have paid for and registered version of pi11.

This patch has worked for me without trouble.
Have PI11 ESD

Don't forget to disable any Virus scanner and other similar software before running the update.

I have just tried turning off everything not needed, including virus scanner. The result is the same - uninstall and re-install the application to get it going again.

I only hope that "a patch to the patch" release cycle will be shorter than waiting for the one we got.
And it won't be called PhotoImpact12, with a price...
