My laptop has no firewire
I’m trying to get 1 hours wedding footage from a digitial video camera to a PC for editing using Ulead Video editing software – however the PC doesn’t have a firewire port. Was going to source an external hard drive with USB2 and firewire ports. My question is this – if I plug the external hard drive into the laptop with USB2 and into the camera with firewire will I be able to transfer the footage to the external for editing?
Or would a firewire PCMCIA card do the job or any other suggestions??

Sandy,
I may be wrong (I often am), but the external drive with usb & firewire will only give you the dual option of connecting the drive to the pc via one or the other, not the option to mix the two types. If you connect via usb, you could daisychain multiple usb devices, and the same goes for firewire.
The PCMCIA card, however, should do the trick.

Greg
