Sound not synchronized
I am converting VHS to DVD, using movie factory 3, direct to disk.
The sound doesn't synchronze, it is always delayed. Anybody know what I can do.
All settings should be at factory defaults. I am just a click and use type person.

Quoting myself..
Digital video tends to be a bit more complicated than that... Everybody's got different hardware, different file formats, and different goals. It might take a few long weekends before you figure-out a routine that works for you and your set-up. (A stand-alone DVD recorder might be a better option for you.)
Analog capture is tricky. Real-time MPEG encoding is tricky. I've never tried direct to DVD, but I'd say you're asking for trouble unless you have a capture device with a built-in hardware MPEG encoder. This is a common, nasty, hard to fix problem. (Take a look at my "signature" at the end of this post!) It seems to have many different causes & solutions. Search the forum for "sync" and you'll find lots of discussion and suggestions.
...What capture hardware are you using? If you're using a capture card or capture device, it should have come with capture software designed specifically for your hardware.
Sometimes a capture device will come with a free "SE" version of a Ulead product, but it may come with some other capture software too. If the Ulead software doesn't work well for the capture step, you can still use it to edit your digitized videos and to make DVDs.
Oh, you're a Mac user?I am just a click and use type person.

I'm using ads, "instant DVD." It's primary software is dvd wizard. But, it doesn't do on screen (menu) thumbnails for each chapter, just the first one.
I'm unaware of a stand alone, dvd recorder, that reords from a vhs player and makes chapters?
I am very good with computer hardware and software trouble shooting, I just don't know anything about audio or video editing.

MD:
What is the point you are trying to make with your link?
I looked through the threads, and didn't see anything related to my sync problem on movie factory 3.
I did use the ulead support, I even e-mailed, and got no response. I called and got hung up on, twice. I read the FAQs, and I posted the nature of my problem in my question.
I didn't mention the hardware, at the time I did not realize that was an issue, because it doesn't happen with other software. I just don't like the software that does work.
When other software works, and one program doesn't, one can usually deduce it is a flaw in that software. I was just hoping for a solution.
And no, I'm not a mac user. Maybe this is what I didn't realize what you meant. For home, and this project, I use a desk top compact presario with amd 2400 processor and 512 ram.

Hi,
The MAC
wasn't for you, it was for Doug. Don't think you got that, no problem. Sorry you mis-understood.
I use all types of computers, not just pc's. It was a joke.
The link was to have you supply more information so users could respond and help you. This is a users board. Ulead doesn't respond here.
Information directly related to your question would be your system specs (Profile), how is this device connected to the computer? USB 2.0?
Is this device sharing a USB 2.0 port with another device? Maybe connected to a USB Hub? Connected via Firewire?
ADS makes many devices.
Usually audio sync problems like yours when doing a direct conversion can be the lacency of the souncard or the soundcards internal mixer such as the Creative Line of cards that use the "What you Hear" feature. Many times recording you may have the wrong input selected. Feedback or delay.
I thought the video and audio cables connect directly to the ADS unit?
Then the ADS unit streams Mpeg2 data to the harddisk?
Does anything connect to the soundcard internally.
Can you capture to the harddisk without any audio/sync problems?
OK, so my wild guess would be that your device is streaming Mpeg2 video into the computer via USB 2.0, the video's stream is decoded by the software program to monitor the video and the audio.
Now, if you have your audio record settings set to record from the windows mixer "Wave IN" port (playback port you are monitoring) that may cause a delay in the audio.
Not sure of your setup so I'm guessing. Also, direct to disk is cpu intensive.
As a suggestion I would capture to the harddisk first. Then create chapters, menu's and burn a dvd. See if that fixes the problem.
Yes, dvd recorders create chapters and do much more. Dvd recorders have limited menus.

You have it right, it streams in through usb 2.0. No sharing, I have 2 usb in rear, and 2 in front. I am using one in the rear, the other is also in use. The audio does go into the ads also. The system; ads Instant DVD 2.0
My system is a compac presario. I was wrong, it's not the 2400, it's the AMD anthlon 2800+, 2.08 Ghz and 512. Also, it's already 2 years old now, so I'm not sure if it has 2.0 or 1.0 usb.
I haven't tried straight to drive, then burning. I will try that.
Sorry for not catching on to the jokes. I have a bad habit of being to literal, and being slow to catch on, when talking about a subject I'm clueless on.
Thanks, to both of you.

...Sounds like the same problem I had. ...Maybe with a different root-cause.Ok, I copied to the hard drive, sound ok. I then burned to the disk, using movie factory 3, and sound not synchronized.
I had MPEG files with "sneaky" corruption. They played-back OK, but when I made a DVD there were sync problems. It took me a long time to figure-out that the files that played-back OK on Windows Media Player were causing the Ulead programs to choke.
In my case, the sneaky corruption was caused by editing MPEGs, which is not intended to be an editable format. I solved the problem by buying a special-purpose MPEG editor.... I use one program to capture analog, another program for editing, and a third program for DVD authoring & burning!
I assume that you didn't edit the video, because you were using direct to DVD before. So, you're getting corruption during capture. The only solution may be to use the software that you "don't like" for the capture-step.

Ok, I forgot to mention: I also tried your advice on the last post, I copied to the hard drive, using the software for the device. (capture wizard)
The sound was good, but the picture kept jumping and skipping.
And you are right, when using "Ulead," and copying to drive, it plays good on media player. Once on the disk, it's sound is off.
I'm trying one more thing. In the options, on the audio, I changed it from the default setting (I forgot what) to mpg1L2. Any ideas on that? Also, I have the option of making the audio a seperate file, will that help/hurt/not make a difference?
Thanks again.

Hi,
It sounds like your dropping frames. Maybe something is interrupting the data flow on the usb2 bus or the computers not keeping up.
You can try elementary stream capturing (2 files, 1-Video & 1-Audio).
Then combine them in an editor.
Maybe plugging the device into a different port will work better.
