More on Menus and Chapters

Post by irhyper2 »

I have read a lot of post on the forum regarding chapters, and still am having problems. I created a DVD with 4 chapters, and want to be able to play a chapter, then have the program go back to the menu. I instructed it to "return to Menu" rather than continue to play to the end, but it still plays to the end. I can hit "Menu" with my DVD remote, anytime during the play back, and it will stop playing and return to the menu, thereby enabling me to choose a different chapter to play. Is that the best I can do, or has anyone actually been successful in burning a DVD that will return to the menu after each chapter?

Break your one long video (called a Title) into 4 separate videos (the 4 chapters). Then it will do what you want...

I recently posted the very same issue earlier, i'ts stated that you need to create a video file before burning (How to do things right) my video has 24 chapters do I use a 3rd party software to split my created video file or do I use the multitrim option in the edit module?

As has been said many times on this Board, including IIRC within the past week, there is probably a confusion in terminology involved in all this. Forgive the repetition, but each DVD-compliant mpeg-2 video file you include in the burning module for inclusion in the eventual DVD, is a title and NOT a chapter. Each of those titles in turn can be broken down into chapters. When you make your menu, each title will have a separate icon, and if you elect to also include a chapter menu, then each chapter can also have an icon on a separate page. AFAIK, the 'return to menu' command in the burning module applies to titles and NOT to chapters...

Ken,

You're right! "Return to menu" is for titles, not chapters. BTW, when are they going to make you (and Steve and the other Ron) the moderator(s) for this forum? I never see any input from the current moderators. Are they even active any more?

I wish I could spend some more time helping out, but I'm currently very busy working on my Masters.

Ouch Ron, that hurts -- considering I'm in this thread :(

Thanks Ken, I now understand. IF I have, say 3 MPEG files, I will have 3 menus, and will have to set up chapters in each.

George,

I'm so sorry. I didn't even notice you had posted. Now I feel foolish, and I have to admit I do remember seeing you posting a bit on this forum.

irhyper 2 -- almost there. You won't have 3 menus. You will have 3 icons, each one representing each of your clips, on the main page of the (single) main menu. And there will be a separate subsidiary page in the menu for your chapters, if you elect to construct a chapter menu as well as the main menu.

And Ron, while I appreciate the vote of confidence, you will perhaps have also noted that GeorgeW at least has posted in this Board a good many more times than I have!!!

Ken,

You're right, George has posted a lot. And I should have done my homework before opening my mouth. Again, I feel really bad about it. This board would come to a dead halt if it wasn't for guys like you both (among a few others). Just for curiosity, I checked out the other moderator's profile. He's/she's only posted 12 times since joining in December 2004! Hmmm, George has posted a whopping 1787, and you a pretty hefty 1275. So.... you know where my vote stands! When's the election? ;-)

Ron

Thanks for the compliment. I think you will find that some Moderators use a different identity for their "Day to Day" posts and their "Moderator" identity for Admin work which would account for some Moderators having very few posts.
