Mistake in Burning

Post by Pam »

I burned my new projects onto a CD instead of a DVD. Is there anyway I can save the information on the CD and convert it to a DVD?
My CD's will only play on my computer. I want to change them to DVD's so they can by seen on any TV/DVD? How can I do that?

It can be done but it might be more trouble than it's worth. You'd have to use a data recovery program like "IsoBuster" to convert the ".dat" file(s) on your Video CD to a compliant MPEG movie file. The resulting ".mpg" could then be burned to DVD with PictureShow 4 using the "Create A New Video Slideshow" option. The resolution of a video CD is rather low so even after re-authoring to DVD it wouldn't look so great on a TV screen.

I should also mention there is a possible workaround that doesn't require additional software. You're welcome to give it a try however I personally don't recommend the procedure since the data in your .dat file will not be properly filtered for MPEG compliancy which might lead to complications with authoring and/or viewing. That said, simply explore your VCD to locate and extract the ".dat" file(s) which are in a folder named "MPEGAV". Rename the file extension from .dat to .mpg and see how it plays in Windows Media Player. If it looks good and plays correctly, try using it in your PS4 project as described above. It might work for you :-)

I think I have learned a lesson to be careful which disc I have in my hand, a CD or DVD.
Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it.
